Sony Reveals Social Networking Applications For Vita
You know, we can't live without 'em. ...or something like that.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will introduce several dedicated applications to PlayStation Vita. As if you couldn't guess, this includes Facebook, foursquare, Skype, and Twitter. As found in the official press release:
"PS Vita users will not only be able to enjoy the immersive rich gaming content but through the addition of these social networking services and communications widely used around the globe will also have an easy access and greater opportunity to enjoy communicating with friends by simply selecting the dedicated application. PS Vita, as the next generation portable entertainment system, will deliver an unrivaled entertainment experience, through close collaboration with various social networking services and communications."
The apps in question will be downloadable from the PlayStation Store, and they'll be completely free. You'll just activate the app by selecting the icon that will appear on Vita's home screen; it's as easy as that. Lastly, don't forget that with that pretty 5-inch OLED screen, users will be able to "enjoy photos and movies shared with their friends and acquaintances via Internet in visually striking graphics."
As the analysts keep saying, the Vita can't just be a dedicated gaming device. I still say it can, but whatever.

The good news is of course that this *may* mean that Sony will keep supporting the device with apps not just related to gaming. Not anywhere near what Android would add to the device, but still. It's something.
But is it enough? Time will tell!

Everything depends on what Sony will allow it to do. And how well will it do it? That entirely up to Sony. That's the faith of a closed system...

Now the device itself... what a beauty and the beast combination. Hope they come out with tons of great games and sell off the first day. Being able to check my Facebook account on it won't hurt either :)

Love it or Hate it Social Gaming is here to stay. It will soon grow exponentially and will be the cause of all media melting into one another. Sony is smart to integrate these Networks. It will only make the Vita more visible and accessible.
I do not mind the Networks at all because I know that the Vita is a TRUE gaming device. It is what all the Phones/Tablets want to be when they grow up. Vita will be able to do all that they do and more. Sony needs to make this absolutely clear to the audience. The Vita can be Sony's greatest success if handled properly.
Anyone know if ANDROID is still on the table for the Vita?

So to answer your question: This announcement pretty much confirms no Android support. There would be no reason to develop those apps had such support existed.

I'm rather very anti-social toward those kind of sites, although I do have Twitter.
And that's mainly to get all the gaming developer/publisher info quickly.
The other bonus of having Twitter for me, has been that I've won all kinds of gaming swag from it, games, DLC, T-shirts, gift cards, bobble-heads, sculptures & diecast figurines, etc.
The only negative thing is that you've always got to on at exactly the right moment to have any chance of entering & then winning all the different gaming company giveaways, LOL.
BTW, I do have Raptr too(& I've even won a $100 Amazon gift card from them too).
But now I hate how Raptr has re-vamped their site, because now I can't frigging find my own achievements/trophy list page there anymore.

Great to see Skype confirmed as well. As long as you got wi-fi, the PS Vita could pretty much double as a phone!
Sony, you've got my money when you announced the specs and the games. I just want a clear date as to when I could actually get my hands on it.

besides not giving a sh*t about their fans of course.
they go to gamescom, the wolrds 2nd largest gaming event.
millions of people are going to be watching!
so what do they spend over 50% of there time on?
big famous blockbusters?
new innovative IPs?
nope, freaking social media!
i said it once, twice, and ill say it again.
$ony has turned into freaking nintendo!
come on when you turn up to E3 the worlds largest gaming event and focous on crappy kids games, then come to gamescom and again focous on crappy kids content, thats when you know your REALLY in trouble!
hell when they FINALLY got to the ps3, what did they announce?
a crappy fitness game, and a crappy dancing game!
fitness?
dancing?
i swear to god, utube made a mistake this is not $onys presser its nintendos!
its like Ferrari turning up to the Geneva motor show and showing off a 10K hatchback!
not what their famous for, a exotic well made luxurious supercar, a cheap poorly made crappy hatchback!
what is this world coming to???????????
ONLY thing worth watching from there presser was the resistance footage, that looked really cool!
that and of course uncharted 3, amazing as ever!
but come on, thats it?
2 things from a hour and a half video?
i was wondering why they had to play that loud dance music at the end of the show.
but now i know, it was to wake the audience up!
i swear to god, anyone who was sitting there watching that and stayed awake should be given a medal!
