Super Monkey Ball Rolling To Vita

If you remember the early days of the Sega Dreamcast, you remember Super Monkey Ball.

And the latest iteration in the critically acclaimed and addictive franchise is headed to the PlayStation Vita.

Sega has announced Super Monkey Ball for Sony's new portable; all your favorite characters, including AiAi, MeeMee and Baby, are out to grab more bananas. The game is designed for the Vita's special features, as it takes full advantage of the dual analog sticks and front/back-touch controls.

We'll get the benefit of all-new worlds, original mini-games and updated visuals, and players will control the monkey's momentum and guide them along narrow ledges, across moving platforms, and through tons of challenging obstacles. Oh, it'll be a cutesy blast.

Said Gary Knight, Sega Europe and Sega of America Senior Vice President of Marketing:

"Since evolving onto the current generation of consoles, the Super Monkey Ball franchise has always offered innovative game design, challenging the hardware capabilities for all the consoles it has released on. Super Monkey Ball on PlayStation Vita is a great opportunity to experience the exciting features that the PlayStation Vita offers, and the SEGA development team are bringing a exciting new experience whilst staying true to the franchise."

Super Monkey Ball has always been fun, even if you only count it as a pleasant diversion. ;) It'll arrive some time in early 2012.

I don't think I will ever understand this game... or PS Move for that matter!

I can't really comment about this game since I never played any of its past installments before, but I have the Move and I understand it.

It'll never replace the Dualshock or any standard controller but there are games that work well with it. I personally prefer to play Heavy Rain with the Move. I had a blast playing Sports Champions with my siblings. My friend prefers playing MAG and Killzone 3 with the Move. To each his own, but the Move is not as bad as what others claim it to be.

If it's affordable and the reviews are good, I might consider purchasing it. I think it could be fun to play a level or two on the go.

Not necessarily my cup of coffee (or tea), but I'm sure it has its own share of fans. The important thing to me is that there are going to be games on the PS Vita for just about every type of gamer out there. That is not a bad thing. Best of luck with this game, SEGA!

My favourite banana-hunting monkey is still Donkey Kong.

Loved monkey ball on PS2!! Definitely getting this if it is cheap enough.

Super Monkey Ball is like Mario Galaxy to me. Simple yet challenging fun with no bullets or headshots or foul language. Reminds me of the old days when games were not taken seriously. :)

Cute little monkeys. But how do they breathe?

Super Monkey Ball is bananas! I have the original for my Gamecube (sorry Sega). These games are addictive and provide hours of light-hearted fun.

Sega released Super Monkey Ball at a time when they were on a roll releasing simple, yet addictive, games that you could play for the longest. Chu Chu Rocket comes to mind, along with Sega Swirl, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, and Space Channel 5. Even their 2K sports series had this pickup and play feel.

There are more, but it's been awhile since I've played on my Dreamcast. Glad to see that Sega is still doing well in the software realm though. I still have great respect for them.
