TGS 2011: Kojima's Original Project "Will Take A While"

Good news: Hideo Kojima is making a new game. Bad news: information is a ways off.

Kojima took the stage to confirm what we sorta already knew regarding the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the PlayStation Vita.

Then he announced that he's currently working on a new original project, one that will release for both the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and will take advantage of that nifty "transfarring" feature (which got a logo of its own at the conference, by the way). We have no idea what that project could be, but as he called it "original," it probably isn't Metal Gear Solid 5. So maybe it's an all-new IP and that's enough to get us excited; we've always wanted Kojima to branch out and try new things. He's too talented and too much of a visionary to stick with only one or two franchises (as amazing as those franchises have been).

But as I just said, the downside is that when asked when we could expect new details on this mystery game, Kojima could only answer- "It will take a while." 'commences waiting not so patiently'

I love this quote from him given a few minutes ago during the Vita presentation "I think this is the only portable device that allows the core functionality"

It better well be! I have never gotten to experience another game like ZoE2 when it comes to mechs. It's like, finding one modern computer in the 1800s and then it disappearing and nothing else comparing again D:

I enjoyed watching my roommate in college play ZoE2 but I was too busy being consumed with CS. I didn't miss too many games now considered classics.

I'm tremendously excited for whatever this ends up taking form as. Kojima really deserves being able to flourish outside of his previous creations. It's great for us and it'll be more personally fulfilling for him as the creative mind he is.

The fact the isn't on the Xbox, from what i can tell from the article, makes my mouth water. I wonder what he is going for. Also, is this a IP or a sequel of some sort?

Kojima... back to exclusivity. I'm glad that he's announced it, but I wonder what his definition of "a while" is. I don't care... I'm waiting.

I hope it's not in term as Kaz from PD. When Kaz says "soon," it's a long time. If Kaz says "a while," my goodness... it probably means at least 3 years.

if its truly a original then it wont be a sequel of any sort.
50 bucks says this is the "taboo" title hes been teasing for so long.
the man may make fantastic games, but god dam it does he love to dangle the worm in front of us!

yeah fingers crossed here as well but i am not getting my hopes up. when peacewalker went multiplat i abandoned all hope regarding konami and ps3 exclusives.

Yeah i read this same story over at ign, they mentioned that his new game will be running on the fox engine. He said a while back that all of his future games would be on PS3, 360, and Vita. and that the PS3 & Vita versions would feature transfarring. From what i gather, kojima would rather make games for portable's, the fact that PW was originally a psp exclusive and then ported to the PS3 & 360 without rebuilding it from the ground up proves that. I believe that the Vita will be the lead platform in development for his future games.

With 3 years top left to the current gen, I could see this being an exclusive. One of the main reasons Kojima has stayed exclusive to Sony is because of the open architecture of Sonys systems.

So, this game is suppose to utilize the new Fox engine. What I don't get is that it's said to be an engine for the ps3 and Vita. When he showcased the Fox engine at E3, wasn't he using the 360 controller? I assumed the engine was for multiplatform, like Frostbite from EA. Or maybe it's just the case for this game specifically.

Argh, I lost myself. It does give me a bit of excitement though, if this game is really utilizing the ps3 without having to think about the 360's PC architecture.

I can't wait for some information on the new game. A mega thumbs up to Sony for releasing the Vita. Making games that work in tandem with the PS3 should lessen any fears that people had about Kojima and multiplat games.
