Final Fantasy III Becomes Part Of PSN's "Winter Of RPGs"

There are plenty of Final Fantasy titles available on the PlayStation Store but as the hardcore fans know, some are unfortunately missing.

One of those missing games will hit the PSN next week as part of the Network's Winter of RPG's campaign: It's Final Fantasy III, which will be ready to go on Tuesday, September 25.

As detailed over at the PlayStation Blog, FFIII is for the PSP and portable fans will experience this journey with the four Warriors of Light; Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus. This was the first franchise entry to boast the awesome Job System, as there are a total of 23 different Jobs to unlock and master. Me, I've always thought the Geomancer was pretty freakin' cool but quite a few jobs are extremely useful, obviously. Mages always rock, for instance.

New features for this PSP iteration include graphics optimized for that 16:9 screen, a sweet image gallery, an option to switch to the original BGM, and an auto-battle mechanic that doubles the speed of combat. As for the latter, all hardcore fans know auto-battle of any kind is a no-no. A cardinal sin. Don't do it. I'll find you if you do.

Auto battle truly is the most evil thing to ever happen. Probably have to get this at some point since we never got FFIII before.

Don't miss FFVI
That was the first FF I played from start to finish on SNES way back in the day.
I have some of the best memories for that one. i think it's because it was the one that really broke me in to the FF universe.
Overall, I'd say FFVIII was the best on PSX. I really got into it's junction system. It had the highest learning curve I'd say, but once handled I found it pretty addictive to power build characters. I also liked the card game in that one as well. The CGI also took a massive leap over FVII and pretty much every game in terms of quality. It still sort of blows me away how ambitious some of those scenes were with the CG FMV being inset in realtime with the real time graphics. Impressive.

I can't tell you how frustrating this is, I bought a DS recently so I could play Final Fantasy III because for years there was no indication that it would be released on a PSP, at all! Then after I got a DS and the game, it pop ed up out of the blue.... Knowing me I'll still get it...

Does anyone know if this will play on the PS3? Or is it only going to play on the handhelds? I would actually pick this up if I could play it on my PS3.

Sounds like a PSP-only thing.

I really liked the thieves/ninja jobs. They have a good balance of speed and strength, which when dual wielding = devastating!

I was considering importing this from Japan as it has English TEXT.

But is it worth paying 50 for a UMD? I really prefer physical to Digital but it depends on FF3 digital price.

I already played this on smart phone, but it's stupid on smart phone. Great for when I'm away and needed something during bouts of boredom, but buttons are buttons... and are always better than a touch screen.
