A Closer Look At the UMD

Continuing our weekend deluge of PSP information, we're now going to take a look at the UMD - the 1.8gig disc, which is the storage medium of the PSP.

UMD front and back.

The UMD box is clear, and it has an insert with the front, side, and rear box art, just like a PS2 game. It's also rather small - only about half an inch taller than a dollar bill.

The disc itself is much smaller than I thought it would be, and even including the size of its case (it can't be removed), it's smaller than a GameCube disc.

There's a sliding button on the top of the system that pops open the tray on the back of the system, and then you simply slide it in.

Just pop and drop.

You've no doubt seen size comparisons of the UMD already, but we're hooking you up with some comparisons to games for systems you might not have seen yet. The Virtual Boy, Atari Lynx, Famicom Disk System, and Game.com are just a few of the shots we've gotten.

UMD and pretty much everything.

We'll be updating all weekend with tons of pictures, impressions of Ridge Racers and Hot Shots Golf, and answering any questions you have about the system. If you'd like to ask a question about the system, post it here in our forums, and I'll do my best to answer it for the Sunday update.
