PSP Firmware Version 2.50 Now Out

It didn’t take Sony long to address the security exploit that allowed users to downgrade PSP’s with the 2.0 firmware down to 1.5. A 2.01 upgrade, which fixed the problem, was released just days after the exploit was revealed. Now firmware version 2.50 has been released in Japan and North America.

In addition to security updates, the new firmware fixes some bugs in the PSP’s Internet browser. The biggest new feature is that the PSP now has the ability to stream video via WiFi using Sony’s LocationFree line of products.

Really there’s nothing too exciting here, but Sony had to try and entice people to update their systems to fix the loopholes. We’ll keep you posted on future firmware updates and what they do, so if you’re into the whole homebrew scene, check back before downloading.
