Use Remote Play Anywhere in the World?

You PS3 and PSP owners may have found yourselves wondering what the entire purpose of the "Remote Play" feature is. Well, for starters it is a feature that enables the PSP to sync with the PS3, allowing you to utilize a Remote Play feature a PS3 game may have. For instance, a patch for Formula One: Championship Edition will allow you to use your PSP and a rear-mirror, so that it clearly displays all of the cars behind you.

You can also use the PSP to wirelessly control your PS3's cross-media bar, and use the contents from your PS3 right on your PSP. Meaning, when the consoles are enabled and will see the PS3's cross-media bar displayed on your PSP. So if you have MP3s or videos or pictures on your PS3, you can access and listen/view them on your PSP. Of course, you're limited to the distance you can go, before the connection is lost.

The feature hasn't gotten much use yet, but Sony seems to have some incredible plans for Remote Play in the very near future. In a BBC article printed earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe representative Jonathan Fargher said that within the next six months, Sony plans to allow gamers to access their PS3 content by using their PSP...anywhere in the world.

"We're hoping to incorporate that functionality in the very near future - from a local level at the moment to a global level probably within the next six months. If I have my MP3 Walkman or my iPod, or digital camera connected to PS3 then I can access those devices too." said Mr. Fargher.

It really does sound way, way too good to be true, but Sony says it is happening. If all goes well, this may very well go down as the coolest feature a console has ever seen.
