Final Fantasy I and II Announced for US

Square-Enix has announced that they will be bringing the anniversary editions of Final Fantasy I and II over to the US shores for the PSP this Summer. The two games were recently announced for the PSP over in Japan, and are fast approaching their respective release overseas, as well. Meanwhile, it looks like we won't have to wait much longer, as Final Fantasy I will debut on June 26th, and Final Fantasy II will follow on July 24th of this year. Yes, both games will be sold separately. But considering the content, the $29.99 price-tag is quite fair. The remakes of both games come just in time for the franchises' 20th anniversary.

"So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and FINAL FANTASY has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible," said Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto. "It is amazing to see how far FINAL FANTASY has come in the past twenty years, and we cannot wait to continue bringing fans more FINAL FANTASY titles in the next twenty years."

The games were re-created exclusively for the PSP, and they'll both feature an assortment of visual and content upgrades. Both Anniversary Editions will sport 16:9 widescreen display, a new camera view, revised character art, new dungeons, and (best of all) updated graphics.

In Final Fantasy, the tale begins when four young warriors, each possessing a Crystal, are summoned to bring the world back to a harmonious elemental balance. During their voyage, they discover a nefarious entity has created turmoil in the structure of time in order to take control of the world, causing the heroes to travel to places they never imagined possible.

In Final Fantasy II, a malevolent emperor has called upon monsters from a demonic realm to take over the world, ending what seemed to be an eternal period of peace. Thousands of lives succumb to their attacks, leaving many children orphaned. From the destruction rise four young survivors who will take it upon themselves to stop the merciless ruler and avenge the death of their parents.
