April 07 NPD: Market Growth Numbers

  In April the videogame industry grew an additional 20% in sales over the same period in 2006. Videogame sales accounted for $838.6M, which brings our current total to $4.2 billion thus far in 2007 - that's a 46% increase over 2006. Software sales overall remained nearly the same, only dropping a mere 1%, with $389.8M taken in. But console software dropped 19% to $248.3M. On the other hand, portable software helped offset the drop with a jump of 61% to sell $141.5M. Game peripherals/accessories totaled $110.4M, with an increase of 37%. Lastly, overall hardware sales shot up 56% with $338.4M. Home consoles amounted to $239.4M, a 56% increase. And portable units accounted for the remaining $99M, an increase of 43%.
