The strategy/RPG sub-genre is indeed still alive (even if it resides mostly in the handheld realm), and fans will definitely want to revisit a classic: Tactics Ogre. This remake of one of the first strat/RPGs to capture the hearts of many is almost ready; it'll be in the US on February 15. If you're not familiar with this type of unique gameplay, here's a combat trailer; as you can see, it will require plenty of strategy and awareness.
