What's
in store for PS2?
The question should be "what's not in store for
PS2?". The success of PS2 has been so huge that
the systems are flying off the shelves faster than
they are put on. The current PS may be very weak,
but the it still manages to amaze many gamers such
as myself. At this time the Playstation has the best
3rd party support, companies like Square, Namco, EA,
Capcom, and Activision have made the PS what it is
today. That will continue with PS2, Square has
already announced three new Final
Fantasy titles, two of them will come out on the
PS2. Square has said that them and Sony will be
establishing a network called PlayOnline. Final
Fantasy X will support the network scheme as well be
an RPG, while FF XI will be strictly for online
purposes.
On the
second week of the PS2's release Sony shipped out a multi-tap
resembling the PS2. The following weeks Tekken
Tag Tournament was released simultaneously with Dead
or Alive 2. Both games were reviewed fairly well
by a Japanese magazine The Weekly Famitsu. PS2 is
already a DVD player out of the box and it plays
original PS titles and even slightly enhances them.
Its USB port is clearly setup with the future
expendability in mind and could be used for
connecting external storage devices, video capture
devices and all other types hardware that would
enhance our experience and take the system a step
further.
Games like Metal
Gear Solid 2 are already in development for the
PS2. My personal favorite is Dark
Cloud, I think that this will be one of the
PS2's shinning stars. Not only are MGS2 and Dark
Cloud on their way but a re-make of Gran Turismo 2
will also be available for PS2 soon. GT2000
can be qualified as an extremely enhanced version of
GT2 but Sony and Polyphony have said that there will
be new features added to the game. To me it is a
question on the amount of cars the PS2 version of
GT2 will have, I'm looking forward to 2000 cars
since that would kind of compliment the title as
well.
