First Activision signed the king himself, Tony
Hawk and they released one of the best and most
memorable games ever. Then after Tony Hawk's
release on PS, Activision announced that Mat
"Condor" Hoffman will be making his
way to the PS as well. And now a press release
has just slid across my office desk from guess
who? Activision has signed two more agreements
with Pro Snowboarder Kelly Slater and Surfer
Shaun Palmer. Although the announcement about
the deals was made earlier at the E3,
we have more info on it now. The game won't
arrive on PS or any current system, Activision
has said that the two athletes will be appearing
on "Next Generation" consoles. Meaning
that systems such as Dreamcast and PS2 will be
receiving the two games. Production on both
games hasn't started yet, but it should be well
under way soon.
Shaun and Kelly are award-winning champions
in their fields, and both are unique, well-known
celebrities who will enhance our line-up of
dynamic cyber athletes, said Ron Doornink,
President and COO, Activision, Inc.
Activisions hold on the
action-sports genre is rooted in our commitment
to signing top-level athletes to contribute
authenticity and realism to the games that we
make. We
are excited to have Shaun and Kelly as
spokespersons for Activisions line of extreme
sports products.
Shaun Palmer is a Six time X-Games winner
picking up all gold medals during the
competitions, proving that he is the best at
what he does. He is also a five time
International Snowboarding Federation's World
Boardercross (damn is there an abbreviation for
this). What's impressive about Palmer is that
not only does he Snowboard but he has also won
events in extreme skiing, mountain bike racing,
and motocross.
Kelly
Slater is known as the best Surfer in the world.
He has set a record when he won his sixth world
title two years ago in '98. He took home gold
when he was just 20, and that was in '92. He
picked up five more titles from '94-98. Slater
has been all over the world competing in tons of
events such as the Coke Surf Classic in
Australia and the Quicksilver Surfmasters in
France (lucky guy ain't he?).
As more information unwraps on these potential
games, we will have solid previews with full
coverage, so get our newsletter to be updated.
