One of the most exciting elements of Playstation 2
is its capabilities to connect gamers to the
internet and allow us to play internet games just
like we are doing already with our computers.
Although PS2 won't be packaged with a modem, all of
us know that a modem will be sold separately sooner
or later, but we don't know when. So some smart
fellas at SN Systems came up with a program that
will allow game makers to use the USB port for
internet connectivity.
How? The games that are built to be compatible with
this program called SN TCP/IP, will simply let
gamers use regular PC USB modems that are readily
available in stores today for much less than $100.
The program and the USB modems could mean that there
will be an internet solution on the launch day of
the PS2, and that idea is catching the eyeballs of
some developers, especially who have been heavily
relying on PS2's modem capabilities to develop new
games.
This is some interesting stuff so we will keep you
updated if anything comes up about this. For now
lets hope that their idea works so we can play and
surf on the web with our PS2s as soon as possible.
