After Sony screwed up and left a bug in the
Playstation 2 that allowed the Japanese system to
play American DVDs, the company took many measures
to fix their actions. Releasing the new utility disk
and announcing a recall on the utility disk 1.0
didn't help much since millions of people already
had the original utility disk and had no intentions
of giving up their PS2's functionality to play
foreign DVDs. Then came more problems as others
started to make money by selling memory cards with
the installed 1.0 drivers to people who bought the
PS2 system with the new drivers.
Well, now Sony took another step to protect the
regional lockout by releasing their new model of the
Playstation 2 that is "fully" protected
against the DVD lockout glitch. As we have reported
earlier, the company announced and already started
to ship the new SCPH-15000 models of Playstation 2
that is the same exact system with a different
internal built which is simply cost efficient.
There is still no word from anyone about Sony's
attempt to block out the first wave of mod chips on
the new model. As new information develops about the
new model SCPH-15000, we will have it reported.
