Nihon Keizai Shimbun has stated that Square's PlayOnline service will not be a free plea. The service will cost $15 monthly and rumors claim that Final Fantasy X will only cost $10. Nobody's really sure about this announcement being targeted at US/European costs or Japanese costs, but my guess that the price may very likely be $15 for the network. If all of this is indeed true then my money will definitely be going towards PlayOnline, the price is great!
