There have been many questions flying around
about the new Analog Dual-Shock controller that
will be shipped with the next generation
Playstation 2. By looking at the PS2 controller
and the current Playstation controller, you
can't find any difference in the design
other than the difference in color. But never
judge a book by it's cover, and this case it
would be a controller by the design.
The new Playstation 2 Analog Dual-Shock
controller will be equipped with fully
analog buttons. That's right every button on the
controller other than the Start and Select
buttons will be sensitive to your touch. For
example, you will be able to make Crash
Bandicoot jump lower by pressing the button just
half the way in. Sony stated that the buttons
are not higher than usual, and they feel the
same as the current controller does.
Because the new controller will be shipped with
the first system sold, it will allow the
developers to make enhanced games that will be
based on the new PS2 controllers and support the
analog buttons. In my opinion, keeping the same
design and adding more functionality is the
perfect way to keep the same feel we already
used to. Although the analog buttons may seem
like a good idea, most of us will have a bad
time adjusting to them. Face it, for our whole
gaming life we have been pressing the buttons to
the point where they no longer go in anymore and
now is a bad time to change that.
