These days we got
plenty of little gadgets on the market,
especially for the popular Playstation. Some of
the well known ones are Game Sharks and the Pro
Action Replay. Just recently we got our hands on
Game Wizard that includes the features of the
top accessories mentioned before and kicks in a
little more of its own.
Game Wizard plugs right into your port in the
back of the Playstation and enables you to use
codes that are stored in the memory. Now the big
problem are the codes. The most widely used
codes today are the ones made for Game Shark,
but the makers of the product thought of that
and made it compatible with all Game Shark
codes.
Since there are plenty of new games coming out
constantly for Playstation, this thing is
updateable. There are two ways to add new codes
into the memory. You can obtain the cheats from
many websites available and input them into the
Game Wizard. Although they made it simpler than
Game Shark, it is still a real pain adding many
codes using the controller. The painless way to
update your codes is to directly download them
from the internet into the Game Wizard leaving
you alot of time to enjoy the game.
The company claims faster loading speeds by 35%,
we ran a couple of tests on that and didn't find
a significant difference to support their claim.
What we do like is the way the system skips the
initial Playstation start-up screen and takes
you right to the Game Wizard's own interface.
There you have the memory manager, CD-ROM
controls and other menus. The CD-ROM controls
allow you look into the CD and explore the files
that are there. Movies could be watched at your
command giving you the chance to see many movies
ahead of time. The CD-ROM menu works with audio
disks as well but we found nothing special in
that field. We were trying to figure out the use
of the V-Ram Viewer but we had no luck with
that, and the manual that comes with it tells
nothing about that feature.
You might have heard of the Mod chips and Pro
Action Replay that you can use to play imported
games and "Backup" copies of PSX
games. With Game Wizard you can do the same
thing even though they tell you nothing about
this feature most likely because of the legal
reasons or maybe it was unintentional. This is
done using the swap method where you start the
system with a real Playstation disk and at the
main menu of Game Wizard switch the CD with an
imported game or a copied disk.
To wrap this up, we see this accessory as a
replacement for Game Shark, Pro Action Replay
and even the Mod Chips. Microsmarts who is the
maker of GW is getting ready to open a site
named Game Zap Network that will allow you to
"Zap" your Game Wizard, Game Shark and
Pro Action Replay with new cheats in matter of
seconds using your computer. For the price of
under $20, its a clear value for the Playstation
gamers. If you already own something like Pro
Action Replay, this probably won't amuse you,
but everyone else will only benefit.
