Formula One Speeds Onto PS2, PSP

Lost among the shuffle of PlayStation 3 revelations yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment also sent out a notice announcing the upcoming release of Formula One 06 for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.

Set for launch in June 2006, Formula One 06 is the only official game of the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship. Available exclusively for the PlayStation 2 and PSP, the game will include all of the official 2006 drivers, cars, teams, and circuits, as well as a number of new features.

The game will feature the ability to network play between PlayStation 2 and PSP. This means players can now compete online across platforms to see who the best driver is. In other words, if you own the PlayStation 2 version of the game and your friend owns the PSP version, you can still compete on the same circuit!

Online play has been expanded to allow a complete 18-race season.

Both games will include an extensive career mode, classic F1 cars, and a new "chief engineer" career play option.

Sony's Studio Liverpool is developing both games.
