Electronic Arts today announced the long-rumored GoldenEye 2, which has been renamed to reflect the fact it bears no relation to the Nintendo 64 game. Retitled GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, the game tosses you into the role of villain rather than hero. Kicked out of MI6 for reckless brutality, the player becomes involved in the battle between Goldfinger and Dr. No. A "brutal encounter" with Dr. No leaves the player with only one eye, but Goldfinger replaces it with a synthetic gold-hued eye. Hence, the player is nicknamed 'GoldenEye.'
While under the service of Goldfinger, players will encounter various legendary characters of the Bond universe, including Oddjob, Sacramanga, Xenia Onatopp, and Pussy Galore, while traveling across the globe, stopping in Switzerland, Hong Kong, Fort Knox, and Dr. No's Crab Key lair in the Caribbean.
Only on the PlayStation 2 will GoldenEye: Rogue Agent will offer online gameplay across all game modes, including campaign missions, deathmatch style simulator trials, and objective-based war games.
We'll have more details on GoldenEye: Rogue Agent next week when it is on display at the upcoming industry trade show, E3.
