Ecko Plays Tag With Graffiti Talent

Atari today boasted that the upcoming Mark Ecko game, Mark Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, will involve more than 65 well-known graffiti writers as part of its development.

While many of these artists will be designing tags and art for the game's urban environments, six well-known artists will be playing more significant roles in the game, as mentors to the main character, Trane.

Cope2, known as the "Bronx Bomber", in the New York City subway system, will teach Trane about subway tagging. FUTURA, who's been around since the '70s, introduces the "black book" element. OBEY: Shepard Fairey was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design and will introduce Trane to wheat pasting.

Seen, who hails from the Bronx and is a notorious subway car painter, shows Trane his craft. Smith is from Washington Heights and is known for finding high spots to tag; he'll show Trane how to be stealthy. Lastly, T-kid 170 began his craft in 1974 and paints many murals even today in the Bronx, and will teach Trane how to muralize.

The game is being developed by The Collective and should be in stores in September, so get those paint cans ready.
