Just recently 3DO announced that they will port BattleTanx 2 over to the PSX. 3DO has claimed that the Playstation version will feature many new things that the N64 version didn't. If you are not familiar with BattleTanx, it is basically a Twisted Metal rip-off except it only has Tanks. Twisted Metal is more original because it provides people with all sorts of spruced up vehicles. Now that BattleTanx is being ported over to the PSX the Twisted Metal might, and I say might have some competition.
Unlike Twisted Metal, BattleTanx will only be two players. But it will offer many new assets that were never included in the N64 version, due to it's lack of storage power. PSX's version of BattletTanx will feature 30 single player arenas and 40 multi player arenas (damn that's a lot). That is not the only advantage that the Playstation gamers get, they also get brand new weapons that are only available to the PSX, in addition to the weapons that exist in the N64 version, and to top it all off new Tanks.
All that but only 2 players, what gives? 989 Studios is making Twisted Metal 4 multi tap compatible so why doesn't 3DO. Sure PSX lacks RAM but look at Crash Team Racing it is by far one of the fastest playing multiplayer games via multi tap yet. Even N64's Mario Kart title has slowdown but not CTR. So it isn't always RAM limitation it is the way it is used by the developer. If 3DO takes a little more time with BattleTanx they can turn it into an excellent 4 player title.
Battletanx 2 overall will be better for the PSX, the only that disappoints me is that the game will only support 2 players but it will features tons of more things that the 'other system' will never have. Still BattleTanx 2 doesn't have a scheduled release date but in the mean time keep an eye out on this game, stay tuned for more updates.
