We all know that the Playstation conversions of "VS" titles such as X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom suffered from the lack of true tag-play. To some, the in-between battle switch wasn't enough (you can switch your characters during the loading screen, before a new battle). The other option was Cross-Tag, where both players had to pick the same 2 fighters. Meanwhile Sega gamers with their Saturn (Japanese one at least) had the privilege of experiencing a full fledged 2D fighter, because of the Saturn's widened RAM. Despite the lack of tag-team fighting, the games were still great, the games moved quick and most importantly were fun never the less. But now things are changing, Capcom will be bringing over Capcom vs. SNK 2 for the PS2 later this year. We've posted damn near 40 screenshots of this 2D fighter, and don't intend to stop there. Catch up with a preview of Capcom vs. SNK2.
As it was with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Dreamcast, Capcom vs. SNK 2 will standout pixilated as these screenshots show. While it takes a little squinting and a good eye to notice, the characters in 'SNK 2 will be surrounded by some jaggies, since after all they are animated out of sprites, but complaining I am not. I lived with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and I'll live with Capcom vs. SNK 2. Aside from that, if anybody has seen the screens for the game will notice that the backgrounds are absolutely vivacious. The scenery such as the sun-set looks splendid, and the background objects are all composed of polygons, much like they were in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for DC. On another note, one of the most talked about subjects regarding the game is the way that Capcom's artists were able to blend in the SNK characters into the Street Fighter universe. Now all of the SNK fighters look like they were born in Capcom world. That's a great job courtesy of Capcom, kudos!
By now we should all be extremely familiar with the "VS" format. 2-on-2 fighting or in some cases 3-on-3 fighting. Now I haven't played Capcom vs SNK 2, primarily because it isn't even available here at the arcades, but from the looks of things, this will be a one-on-one fighter. Don't take my word on it folks, I don't have a source and this coming purely from my own thoughts. As to any particular stories, or alliances between Capcom and SNK character I don't know anything in regards to that. But I do know that the game will feature a total of 44 playable fighters, including:
Capcom vs. SNK 2 will also feature 6 different 'grooves', various grooves do various things when the super-bar is full, but you can't use all six, you have to pick one and stick with it for the remainder of the tournament, until you beat the game. Capcom vs. SNK 2 is expected to hit the PS2 this Fall 2001, a September date is likely, but Capcom has been hush-hush.
