Take a long hard look back into the Playstation's history. Do you remember a single game based on inline skating alone? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has shaped the Extreme Sports genre, and has set an example for every other extreme sports title in the pipes. Why an inline-skating title was never released beats me. We saw a lousy scooter game, but no inline-skating game. I'm a skater myself, a freak if you will. My speed demons are my K2 Camanos, and every time I skate with them, I go to some really isolated area with no vehicles; I can't help but think how great it would be to finally see an inline skater on the PS2. Thankfully, UK based Rage Software has answered my prayers with their very own, solely based inline skating title called, Rolling.
Glancing at the eight initial screenshots, Rolling is obviously in its early state, but the game still looks fantastic! It seems to resemble Dave Mirra 2 and ESPN-X Games Skateboarding, as the texture detail is a bit reminiscent. The backgrounds are very notable and look extremely solid. The skater detail does seem just a bit rough at the moment, but the detail is tight and everything looks good. Of course, Rage will be spending time with the park detail, as they hope to capture the look of every inline skate park the gamer enters. I believe Rage will do a great job of keeping everything sound in the visuals.
Rolling is described as "an athletic, fast and exciting entry into the world of Aggressive Inline Skating." There will be a selection of skaters to choose from, including: multiple world champions Cesar Mora and Fabiola da Silva, in addition the leading street skater of the pack, Jon Julio. A create-a-skater mode will be included in the mix, as well as a park editor. The rest of the modes, while remain to be announced, will most likely be pretty obvious. On the multi-player side of things I expect Rolling to be a 2 player game, with possible online capabilities, and that's not at all farfetched. Most of you know what to expect from a game such as Rolling; dozens of sick tricks, mixed with sick air, sick speed, a sick adrenaline rushing soundtrack, which would make up for an overall sick package! It's unclear of the labels that this game will sport, although guesses leave me to believe K2, Rollerblade, Salomon, Ultra and Tecnica. I have extremely high hopes for this game, hopefully Rage does a wonderful job with it.
