Earlier this year, Capcom announced the presence of an all-new 3-D action adventure game for the PS2, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory. The title features the main character of Maximo, who is our dauntless hero in this epic story, struggling with the presence of Achille, his once trusted advisor. Achille has filled Maximo’s kingdom with the forces of the undead and has imprisoned four beautiful sorceresses in the progress, including Maximo’s own beloved Sophia, who Achille has forced to marry him. In an attempt to restore his kingdom, Maximo must face the shadows of death himself, while saving the four sorceresses and taking back his sacred homeland from the corrupt Achille.
In terms of gameplay, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory includes an excellent portrayal of the hero’s ability and skills, and provides over 40 special abilities and power-up elements. Capcom has also allowed the character of Maximo to use his shield as protection and a powerful weapon, including lighting and tornado attacks. His sword is also a key element in defending against evil, as it can range from simply increasing in size to sending flames and meteors into the face of the undead.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory has been inspired by Capcom’s original series, Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Throughout the story of Maximo, fans of the series will recognize many elements that were used in the previous heralded title. As you journey through numerous worlds, your character will change appearance, weapons, and skill based on player preference. Also, when traveling throughout the game, spells can be cast upon you changing your appearance to both a “baby Maximo” and “old Maximo”, both of which have no power for a limited amount of time. Upgrades in armor are also a nice feature that allows for added power when you are successful in the game. Not only is the game very skillful and clever, it also incorporates a sense of lightheartedness that makes playing the game an enjoyment.
"Maximo: Ghosts to Glory marks true gaming playability at its best in an amazing 3D world. The intent was to create a game that's all about fun," says Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "It's not often a game comes along with such massive appeal. This is due to a unique combination of amazing development talent, a brilliant musical score, incredible graphics and artwork design from one of Japan's most popular artists. Capcom has spared no expense to create this blockbuster."
