Football fans, get ready for the next blockbuster installment from EA Sports. It's Madden NFL 2001. EA is promising to produce a game that is even more realistic. Looking at the screenshots, and reading reviews, EA will live up to their promise. This game is also planning on hitting the stores at the same time as the Playstation 2. So if you are ready for gridiron action, this game is for you.

   So, what are some of these new, state-of-the-art features you can look forward to? Some of the main ones include:

   1. New, player-specific touchdown dances and taunts

   2. A new interface that allows for easier navigation

   3. New defensive controls-These allow you to read the offensive set at the line of scrimmage and adjust pass-rushing routes, linebacker drops, and pass coverage instantly

   4. Enhanced audio and play-by-play recordings with Madden and his buddy, Pat Summerall

   5. High-resolution player models that are proportional to their real life counterparts. Look forward to much more player-specific detail including wristbands, visors, facemasks, turf tape, and elbow pads.

   EA has also digitized the faces of the NFL coaches. The coaches can be seen on the sidelines getting stressed out and yelling at the players and referees. Also, the other players on the sidelines look more lifelike and actually have different numbers on their jerseys. Other things you can see on the sideline include Gatorade kegs and misting fans. EA has done an outstanding job of making the overall game look and feel more realistic.

   Players will also have the chance to collect "Madden Cards." These are similar to last year's Madden Challenge. You collect the cards by performing tasks. Unlike last year's game, players will actually be able to trade the cards with friends via the memory card. Another impressive addition to the game is the law of physics. EA has incorporated more realistic actions. When a player is hit, the reaction looks much more realistic.

   I don't get into sports games that much, but this one has me impressed. The only drawback is that the faces of the players could still use some more work to make them look realistic. Other than that, EA Sports is once again leading the pack with an awesome looking game. We'll be sure to let you know when it will be in stores, and how it plays.
