Electronic Arts, long known for their high quality sports games such as Madden NFL, have decided to take another approach to gaming, this time going after younger audiences with Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension. Teamed with LEGO, Galidor is just one of several titles these two companies will be working on over the next few years.
Based on the FOXKids hero Nick Bluetooth, the "Defender of the Outer Dimension", players will embark on an epic quest to free Nick's friends from the clutches of the evil Gorm. Of course, this will be no easy task, requiring Bluetooth to travel through 4 realms, each comprised of 3 separate levels. Each realm will have its own unique enemies, items, and final boss. By defeating each boss in their respective realms, players can use a 'navigation egg' to travel to another realm. Nick can also absorb the special abilities of his fallen enemies, including the ability to Super Jump, Glide, Weld, Grapple, and use gadgets like Jet Wings, Ballistic Energizer, and special Armors.
Overall, the basic premise of Galidor is very similar in gameplay to old school 2D platform games, such as Metroid, Mega Man, and more. In fact, Galidor is more similar to these old games than that, incorporating a peripheral that will assist players in their adventures, very much like the old R.O.B. for the NES. Called the Galidor Kek Powerizer, this peripheral will assist players by reacting to events occurring onscreen, helping to find items, unlock secrets and more. And in custom fashion, this unique toy will of course sell separately.
Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension will launch during Spring 2003 on the Playstation 2. Look for more details on the game as they become available.
