Army Men games are literally released one after the other within a three to four month period. The whole series in general is pretty bad, almost every action related game in the Army Men franchise has bombed, Army Men 3D, Sarge's Heroes, Land Sea, Air, everything! The only one game that I actually enjoyed quite a bit was Army Men: Air Attack, it made me think that maybe an Army Men action/adventure game just isn't fit for a console as vulnerable as the PSOne, I may have been right about my thought. As we glimpse at Army Men: Green Rogue, it looks like 3DO maybe picking up momentum.
I'll come out and say it as bluntly as I possibly can, the visuals in all of the adventure Army Men games 'sucked'. Not only were they all grainy, but the textures were terribly pixilated, the frame rate was a big pain in the arse, and the draw-in distances were so bad that at times it would be almost impossible to know who is shooting at you. Thankfully with the PS2's power, 3DO will be able to match their visual thoughts of how an Army Men game should look and play like. Judging by these first shots, it looks like Army Men will be quite pretty and bright looking game. The environments are quite noticeable and stand out amongst all of the other visual visages such as character detail. The plants, trees, rocks and what not, have solid cartoonish detail embedded within them, but the result is quite good and attractive for the most part. While it isn't "next"-generation graphical achievement, Green Rogue still looks quite pulchritudinous (it means "pretty"). The character detail is also what I would expect from a game like Army Men, but it isn't a step in the wrong direction though.
If you were one of those people who actually bought an Army Men game and liked it, first of all I hope the big guy upstairs pities you, and second of all, you should then know what to expect from Green Rogue. You will make way through 16 different levels as an Army Men project called the Omega Soldier, it is composed of Sarge's DNA if you will, and a few of other Green soldiers genetic strands so that this super Army Man is a one man army, and that he becomes, as he is your primary character throughout the game. Like always you will be equipped with the standard guns, bazookas, flame torches, sniper rifles and many more weapons that appeared in the the past Army Men titles. The current release date for Army Men; Green Rogue is mid-March.
