When you think UbiSoft, one character that instantly comes to mind, it's Rayman, the limbless wonder. Making it big on the PSOne way back in 1995 as one of the very first Playstation games available, Rayman took the side-scrolling genre to a new level. The wonderful looking colors took gamers into a whole new world, and made them believe. For a long time, 3 years to be exact, we heard nothing about a new Rayman game for any console, until on faithful day when UbiSoft informed us on a Playstation and Nintendo 64 sequel. The Dreamcast version, and PC version were announced a bit later and then the PS2 version followed. The N64 and PC were the first to get their Rayman game, Dreamcast followed a month or two after, and nearly a year later the PS2 would get its version of Rayman 2. If you haven't played Rayman 2 on any of those systems, then you have missed one of the greatest adventure titles since Super Mario 64. Well it seems as if Ubisoft won't dry out with their Rayman games like they did with Rayman 1 and 2. An all new Rayman title has been announced and it's in the form of a party game.
I don't know what in the world is going on at UbiSoft's development studios, but they have mysteriously released a screenshot with the word "sh*t" printed on top of it in translucent letters. This could either be some kind of sick joke, or a misprint in the game's very early coding. Aside from that, Rayman M is a wonderful looking game that deserves to be titled under the Rayman license. The visuals look just as good as the Rayman 2 visuals found on the PS2, for instance the texture detail looks fantastic and the overall background detail is incredible as well. Rayman M also shows off character detail that we have become very accustomed to seeing from our PS2 games, high polygonal models with a bag load of fine work put into them. Rayman M's visuals look just as sweet and bright as do Rayman 2's do visuals.
Rayman M will be a multi-player game targeted at gamers of all ages. The game will take place in the environments of which the events in Rayman 2 transpired. There will be many characters to choose from, such as Rayman, Ly and Globox, in addition to those announced three, I predict that the Teensies will also make it (or at least one of them will) and of course Razorbeard will as well. The characters will be able to fly, jump, shoot and run just as Rayman can. No additional information has been revealed about this multi-player Rayman fiasco, hopefully E3 2001 has us covered. Currently a November 2001 release date is in effect for Rayman M. Enjoy the five screens that we have for now.
