Capcom certainly knows what keeps the fans coming back, don't they? One of their trademark titles, Mega Man, a.k.a Rockman, a.k.a the Blue Bomber, is making his second Playstation 2 appearance in 8 and 16 bit magnificence with Mega Man Anniversary Collection. And Capcom's celebrating his 15th year by giving us gamers the presents.

Fans can forget about pulling their old Mega Man games out of storage, because they're all on one disc, with extra treats in store. The disc contains Mega Man 1-8, with two Mega Man arcade titles that were never released here in the United States. Extras include original artwork, footage from the original Mega Man TV show (exclusive to the PS2 version), and remixed songs inspired by the series. This wonderful cache of bonus material will have to be unlocked by playing the games.

For all who aren't familiar with the Mega Man series of games, the lowdown is to become the Blue Bomber and stop the mad Dr. Wily from taking over the world using his 8 robot masters. The eight games are filled with eight stages each, with a robot master waiting for you at the end of every stage for you to defeat and acquire his special weapon. After giving the masters hell, you must finally confront Wily himself, who awaits you in his dangerous fortress. The games' lively graphics haven't changed a bit. The gameplay haven't changed either; the games are still as difficult as they were back in the day. Precision platform jumping was a big deal with the older Mega Man games. I'm sure all who played the classic games died more than once trying to jump to the same damn platform before. In short, the difficulty was sick, but in a very good way. Mega Man 1-8 weren't always easy to master, but not impossible.

Nothing has changed, even for a special re-release. And why should any of it change at all? We love to play the classics untainted. Oh, beautiful nostalgia. Expect this mega-buster blast from the past in May 2004.
