I am so incredibly impressed with Fear Effect that I had to tell someone, anyone, and everyone I know. This is without a doubt, the best action/role playing game I've ever seen. The only games that I can compare it to are the Resident Evil series (1,2,&3); however, Fear Effect makes Resident Evil look like a kid's game.
I love scary movies, with dramatic twists and ironic story lines. I watch them all the time with little to no fear. But as I played Fear Effect, I found myself dying to know what was about to happen, yet almost scared to keep playing to find out. Fear Effect doesn't rely on the slow moving bloody zombies or green slimy beasts to act as your nemesis like Resident Evil does. Instead, you are faced with a different realm of villains that the typical gamer could never imagine. For example, who would expect to walk up on a street prostitute only to find that she turns into some form satanistic hell spawn right in front of your eyes! Another important factor, when you do meet this "woman of the night" you don't have the option to pause to get all you weapons just the way you want them. Nope, if you didn't plan ahead...let's just say you're about to see a lot of blood...your own!
This game has the most intense, adult, bloody, sexy, mysterious, inventive graphics I've ever seen on a Playstation game. This is not...I repeat, NOT a game for the kiddies! There is constant graphic violence, nudity, and so much blood you would think you're at the battle of Normandy! Games like Duke Nukkem get off with catchy little one-liners and teenage blood and gore graphics, but Fear Effect has an entirely adult (anime) world with designers who have obviously taken the time to develop a unique and dramatic story line that will keep you on ends until it's over.
Now, I cannot say that every little thing was a perfect ten about this game, but I like this game so much that I will not even mention the little things that bothered me. All I can say is that if you like the action/role playing genre, then you would be missing out if you didn't check out this game. I constantly hear all the hype about the new Spiderman game that is coming out this spring, but if I was heading down the preverbial dark alley and had to meet up with spidey or Dana (Fear Effect's main character) I would not hesitate to try my luck against the web-slinger, because Dana would throw down her assortment of weapons just to feel you die in both her hands. I would even presume that when she is done with you, she would squash the little wall-crawler just for fun.
This game is without a doubt a perfect 10!
Buy it! What's the matter, are you scared?!
