Warhawk User Review
Warhawk is an online only third person shooter with emphasis on ground, vehicle, and airplane combat. There are two types of vehicles, the 4x4 with a mounted machine gun on back, and a tank. Maximum server size is 32 players.
After 3.5 years, the graphics look a little dated. The style is slightly cartoony, compared to the realistic look of a CoD or Uncharted.
The gameplay and controls are very well done. The weapon balancing, as well as balance between the ground, vehicle and airplane combat, are very well done, although not perfect. The airplanes are easily the strongest form of combat. A good pilot can take out a good ground soldier or tank driver 9 times out of 10. However, the warhawk is the hardest to learn to control, and the easiest to spot, due to the fact that if you're in the air, the other team can always see your icon on the map. There are six different game modes: Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, CTF, Zones, Hero, and Collection.
This game was made for surround sound. The insane amount of action taking place on any map is equaled only by the audio pouring out of the speakers. Explosions, gunshots, planes flying overhead, 4x4's flying by... Everything is excellently represented in the audio and adds to the already hectic pace of the game.
Warhawk is not perfect. It will not appeal to a great many people due to the lack of a single player campaign, and at this point, the high skill level of the people playing will frustrate any newbie just picking the game up. However, the controls are some of the best of this generation. The weapon balance, although not perfect, comes very close. And the hectic, fast paced onscreen action of a 16 v 16 team deathmatch can't be matched by any other game. I recommend that you give this game a shot, as it really is one of the gems available only on PS3.
