Ratchet and his metal friend Clank has been in several games on the PlayStation 2, and this is their debut on the PlayStation 3. Is it just as good, or can it get better?

Well, unfortunately I never played the PS2 games, so I can't answer that question. But this game is really a masterpiece on all fronts!

First, there's the story, which I won't talk too much about. I mean, do you really need a reason to run around and solve puzzles and punish pirate robots? Didn't think so. But anyway, there is a story at least, that will last you about 12 hours depending on interest. If you don't like this kind of game, meaning funny platform games with some puzzles, you probably shouldn't get it.

Captain Quark has had some problems on the homefront, and he gets kidnapped by President Tachyon. Ratchet and his clunky little buddy obviously has to save his skin. During the journey you visit several planets. Among them are a cousy jungle planet, a typical cold moon planet, a really awesome pirate planet and a planet with an arena, where you're supposed to battle it out, of course. There is also a part where you steer a spaceship through space, where you also need to fire at asteroids and such. It reminds me of classic arcade games, but it doesn't feel great to play it. It's fun though, and it fits in the game.

It is really fun to play this game, since it's very varied with lots of different and fun weapons, tools and things. In some levels you also get to play as Clank, where puzzle solving is usually the main attraction. But it's mostly Ratchet you control, and it feels really good. All the buttons are used in a clever way, and the little Lombax is easy to control. He has a lot of weapons, and after a couple of hours with the game you can easily pick your favorite. Mine is the electrical whip, that gets more and more powerful with every level of upgrades. Then we have the legendary Groovitron, which is a disco ball that you throw up in the air. All the enemies nearby will start dancing uncontrollably for about 8-10 seconds. During that time you have to bash as many pirates, robots or pirate-robots as possible.

The graphics are stunning, and reminds me a bit of a Pixar movie. It's not really in the same category as Uncharted, but it's really nice anyway. The sound also works perfectly, with good voice-acting and sweet music. The best music is on the pirate planet, where it reminds me of the soundtrack from Pirates of the Caribbean.

If you like characters that joke a lot, good graphics and sound, nice platforming action and intuitive weapons, you should definitely take a closer look at this game. It's a must-have for all gamers!

Positive aspects: Fun characters, good story, great sound, magical graphics, lots of weapons, fun platforming parts, lots of variation, Ratchet is easy to control.
Negative aspects: Clank is a bit harder to control, the spaceship moment isn't the greatest, some irritational moments.

Spot-on with most of your points. The only thing I don't enjoy asuch about the newer R&C's is that there are far fewer weapons than in previous installments. Of course this wouldn't matter to someone new to the series.

The spaceships moments aren't great, but they aren't as horrible as Kingdom Hearts'.

My only gripe with this review, from your ratings on each asset it would seem your overall rating should be a bit higher? On your other review many aspects are rated lower but the overall is higher. Just seems inconsistent.

Well, I wrote these reviews in Swedish last fall, and I only made the final score then. The different categories were added now, so yeah, I think I should've probably rated this higher overall. Sorry.

:/
