The story is about Sarah Farron, younger sister of Lightning in the previous game, and Noel Kreiss, a man from the future, as they embark on a journey through time to find Lightning. You will be accompanied by a Moogle that turns into a weapon for Serah kupo. It retains the same battle system from the previous game with a few improvements, you can now change party leader during the battle, it's not game over if the leader died as long as the other one is alive, and you can specify the paradigm in three ways (normal, cross and wide).

Although you can only play Sarah and Noel the entire game, you can recruit monsters in your party as long as you have obtained their crystal. By the way you will play Lightning in the start of the game but that's the only time. Your monsters has specific role and different attributes. You can level up your monster also infuse them so the other monster can take the abilities of other monsters. Collect them all if you want. As for the scenery and places you will explore in the game, it's just the same places in different time periods and weather. For me it feels a little smaller than the previous game, also some of the monsters. The soundtrack really depends on which genre you like. But some really captures the ambience. (Ex. The dying world).

Now the downside for me, i really loved the story from the previous game but for me the story in this sequel feels disconnected from the original. It looks like they forced the story for this sequel to address the complaints from the previous game for its linearity and the absence of mini games which is not bad it could've been work for me but that few seconds in the end ruined it for me. Although in other paradox ending which you will be able to unlock after finishing the game with a fragment skill prevents that from happening and will give you hope that our hero will have a sweet conclusion, the fact is that there's still no real closure in this game. All i can say if you don't care about the characters in the previous game and enjoys jrpg you will like this it still Final Fantasy production value.

But if you really love the characters, their story and their journey in the previous game i hope you're not gonna be disappointed cause i am. Also i hated the slot machine and finding a certain transparent person which you are obligated to finish to unlock a mediocre secret ending, but the quizzes are quite funny for me. I guess you will enjoy this game if you don't care too much about the story and the ending just want to collect monsters, play mini games, travel back and forth in the timeline and a tonberry for a party. For me who loved Final Fantasy XIII, i just really wished this sequel should have never been made at all and square enix spent their time and effort in that other game which somehow i don't remember anymore, some versus thing, i think.
