This review is intended for the online portion, so you guys will have a better idea of what to expect when you saddle up. There are two parts to Red Dead's Online: The first time you get online you will be in a free roam if you have friends you will want to invite them so you can 'posse up'. The second part is the competitive side, Red Dead has your western variants of Free For All, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag (3 versions of CTF), It also has Hardcore variants of the deathmatch based games for the, well Hardcore.
Now the Posse system is like the party system of any other online game except with some slight differences, up to 8 people can be in a posse, the posse leader (The original inviter) can set waypoint markers on the world map for the entire group to see, select a game mode transporting the entire party, and vote/kick people out of the posse. Upon accepting the posse invite you can automatically hear evryone in your posse with a mic when they speak, and you can teleport to your party leader (with varying degrees of success as of 5/20)
With your posse in free roam you can raid gang forts for xp, or just shoot random other people playing online that would probably have shot you first they'll give you xp too. You also have a journal filled with challenges more time consuming than the next, (I think it has a MMORPG feel to it in this mode with less people to interact with)
The leveling up process isnt much of a chore with unlockables like new mounts (horses), new guns, and new characters it keeps you wondering 'what am I going to unlock next?' Not to mention all the titles you can earn from completing the VAST array of challenges.
They give you an arsenal online provided you rank up to unlock and 'keep' your guns, there are multiple types of pistols (revolver and semi-auto), multiple shotguns, throwing knives, dynamite, at least 1 sniper rifle, multiple 'repeaters' (think long distance shooting rifle)
The only negative thing I have to say about this game is the server support isnt exactly up to par yet, but I suspect R* will patch these things pretty quickly. The following things make a habit of turning invisible in a crowded lobby (up to 16 in a lobby) Horses, Playable Characters, Vicious Wild Animals, Non Playable Characters, and Enemies. Also every now and then you'll pass a guy in an invisible stagecoach sitting in the middle of nowhere.
There isn't a space for it below but given the few online technical difficulties I'd give the Online a 10 for innovation and overall excellency, but the forementioned problems give it a 7.5 for me. I'M REPLACING REPLAY VALUE WITH THE ONLINE SCORE because online doesnt really have a replay value in my opinion you just keep playing the same playthrough.
I hope this clears up some of the online experience Thanks for Reading.
