saints row turned into a blatent kick in the junk with its third iteration. Saints row IV is the purple wing tipped shoe on that foot in said junk. I say this as both a compliment and a complaint because the IVth is really just a big expansion of the IIIrd most of the time. Well, it's basically the matrix and saints row the third put together with a smattering of nods, parodies and references to many other games and movies. Oh, and lots of tron lines ( I like tron lines). I won't tell you what the the parodies and such are, that would ruin a good part of the fun.

The story is that the saints get all the way up to the white house and just as things are about to go down the political crapper, aliens show up and do some stuff. I am being vague for a good reason by the way. The story is ridiculous, but it's also a lot of fun. My mouth actually went "wow" as I watched some of the cut scenes. I for one also find myself invested in the characters thanks to the shenanigans of the IIIrd and their return in this game just makes it all the more likeable. This brings me to the weirdest thing about saints row. The story is simple, the gameplay is workable but nothing extraordinary, and the characters are fairly two dimensional, but it's all done in a way that I find enjoyable.

The game lets you know very early in that you get super powers (this being the games big new thing to play with) and you get to build your character with these powers. I am a little sad that because of this, vehicles become, for the most part, useless. There will be scenarios when your powers are taken away, but it seems like a cheap trick to make up for the fact that you are probably going to level up much too quickly. With that said, I still found enough areas where I needed those insane superpowers to survive.

As I said before, the game is largely a big expansion of the previous games. Most of the cars are the same. Most of the characters are the same. Even most of the costumes from the previous game make a comeback. I still think the game is worth playing though. There is enough new stuff in it to keep you entertained for at least as long as the last saints game did. So don't fret. So pick it up and check it out. If you're like me and poor, it's also available through red box rentals. So have some fun with it for two bucks a night if not for however long you keep games you buy.
