ModNation Racers User Review
If you remember Crash Team Racing, this game seems to be heavily inspired by that game which is a very good thing. The gameplay has a slight learning curve, but is extremely fun when you get into it. The AI racers are not to be taken lightly and will beat you many times.
The graphics are phenomenal and I couldn't be more impressed. The sound is topnotch as well from the sounds of the different kinds of engines to the entertaining banter of the announcers. Luckily they cut the announcers out during the races so as to save the annoyances. They also don't have the other racers yelling random crap at you during the races.
This game can be played again and again thanks to all the user created content. The track creator is amazing and easy to use. The tools are outstanding and they have an auto populate tool that puts in all the speed ramps and traps to speed things up. Everything can be edited from the placement of the sun and amount of cloud cover, to the slants and curvatures of the hills.
I have only a few complaints with this game. One is the terrible load times. It seems like you wait for loads longer than you race. The others are with the track maker. Sometimes the tool creates a gap between bridges and ground, or ground and ramps. These can be a real problem to fix and take lots of time. Also the editor occasionally doesn't tell you that shortcuts you make are illegal until you use them in an official race. This can be annoying, but easily fixed. The load times really are disgusting and that is why I can't give it a better overall rating.
I give a big thumbs up to United Front and say thank you for this wonderful cart racer in a world of guns, plat-formers, and RPG's.
