Metal Gear Solid User Review
Graphics: It was far superior to almost every game released around the same time. Unlike many other games, things didn't just randomly blend together, or appear out of place. The character models were also very well detailed.
Gameplay: Outstanding. From crawling through gutters, to trying to outsmart and outmaneuver the guards, everything was done amazingly. The guns handled good, and the boss fights were fun and innovative. I feel that there was nothing to hold this game back here.
Sound: This is where the game truly stood out for me. This game had some of the first great voice overs I've ever seen in a game. Not to mention every little sound truly added to the experience. Footsteps, cameras, gunshots, explosions, confused genome soldiers, and so much more. And the one big thing from this game that every MGS has had so far, the alert sound.
Control: The game handled great. There's really not much to say here in my opinion. It's either good or bad.
Replay Value: There really isn't much to pull you back in immediately like games nowadays, but there were 2 endings. You get some new items, and depending on what ending you get, you get a new item to play with for a second run. Maybe you'll want to see both endings, but otherwise, not much of a reason for a second full runthrough immediately. However, after a little while, and a few games in on the series as a whole, you'll definitely want to run through again for a reminder of everything.
Overall: Easily within the top 3 best games on PS1. Even to this day it is still worth an occasional play.
