Vita Sales "Exceed Expectations," Top 1.2 Million Worldwide
After one week in the major markets around the world, how has the PlayStation Vita fared?
Well, the press release we received today makes it plain: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has announced that global sales of their new portable has reached 1.2 million units worldwide as of February 26. That's actually only four days after the Vita launched in North America and Europe. Furthermore, software sales have surpassed 2.0 million units at both retail and on the PlayStation Network.
Said SCE President and Group CEO Andrew House:
"PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the reaction we're seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling. The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context. To sustain momentum, we're working closely with 3rd party developers and publishers to ensure the best games and franchises possible will be available on PS Vita, and our software line up for the remainder of 2012 will have something for everyone across the globe."
Offering a deeper and more immersive gameplay experience than has ever been seen in handheld entertainment before, the Vita seems to have resonated with quite a few gamers. The dual analog sticks, beautiful 5" high-def OLED multi-touch screen, powerful quad core processor, tilt function, built-in microphone, and front and rear cameras make this a diverse and entertaining device. And with both 3G and Wi-Fi available, the Vita "will enable infinite possibilities for users to 'encounter,' 'connect,' 'discover,' 'share' and 'play' with friends wherever they are."
Are you a proud owner, too?

I don't mean must have jRPG. I mean must have game. I played Uncharted GB on my friends PSVita, and while it's a must own for Vita owners, it's not a Vita seller for me. I actually meant what I said when I needed a must have title. The kind of must have that you must have whether you have the console or not... like you need to buy the console just for that game. I highly doubt a launch title is truly indicative of the best to come in the next couple years for Vita.
Crisis Core was that game. Crisis Core was an action RPG.
AC is my favorite franchise this gen, but the PSP title was weak-sauce. Very poor control scheme without a second analog.

The 620,000 units numbers come from the US, EU and AU markets.
Those numbers went beyond the 578, 812 units sold so far in Japan.
And the device has only begun to sell on Western markets. So things are def looking good for Vita.

I seriously hope monster hunter comes out for the vita sooner or later. I've been hearing news that goes back and forth saying there will be a monster hunter coming out...or there wont and whatever.
Great to hear that the VITA sales have "exceed expectations." I just hope that more awesome games come out and that developers don't back off from this awesome gadget.

I've actually completed Mutant Blobs Attack 100% so far. I still have Uncharted, BlazBlue, Wipeout, Dungeon Hunter(My free game from Target), Ninja Gaiden, ModNation Racers(Got it for $10), Hustle Kings, Escape Plan, SSD:Delta, and Plants vs. Zombies to play.
The Vita is amazing and was well worth all the money I spent on it.

I picked up Uncharted, Hot Shots golf, & Wipeout during the B2-G1F deal at GS, plus bought the D/C code for Escape Plan too.
I've also D/L'ed every Vita demo & game trailer out now, whether I liked the genre or not just to see what my Vita can do.

Anyway, still not interested in Vita, I've played it, it's fun. I'd just prefer to play my PS3. And I don't want to take that risk that these games will be ported over to PS4 or PS3 like the PSP games did, and get the Vita for nothing.
Although there are some awesome, awesome looking games on this system. I'm glad it's doing well as a PS homer.

Let us remember that these are the initial sales over the first week. Sony, as any corporation would, will use the initial sales burst to the hardcore gamer as part of their marketing push to highlight PsP Vita is well on its way.
I stand by my earlier statements that we will only really know, in 6 months or so if momentum is there. I think it will drop to a trough and then re-ignite over the holiday season (or after E3) if more competitive bundles are released and prices come down by 15% to 30% over time.
Sony is reaping profits and "word of mouth" from the early adopters - you guys. This business is important to them as it makes you part of the early ecosystem that will tout the system everywhere you go and is seen in public being used...
I think technically, the machine is fantastic from what I see... what will be interesting to see - 6 months to a year from now - is what the average adoption ratio is when taking into consideration mobile devices and tablets...
It is all very interesting to me and will enjoy watching how things develop. I will stay out of the Vita domain for now, with a possibility of getting it in 2013 if I feel compelled to do so...

Longevity will be determined by the software, and only the software. That much, I'm fairly certain of.

Hehe - it's exciting! This feels like a horse race where the Vita is the new horse, the wildcard that no-one really know what to expect from. My brain says "look at the odds, you fool" while my heart says "but it's such a gorgeous animal, this one! Healthy, eager...!".
I *could* now come with a couple of details regarding the launch here in northern Europe that should cause minor concern, but I won't bother. Let's just see how this plays out. :)

2) Japan's four-day total was essentially the same as its two-day total.
3) Both numbers represent the first "week" of sales (that is, the launch frenzy), though both "weeks" are partial.
However, the NA/EU numbers actually include the advance sales from the previous week, I'm sure, so there is that negative slant if you really want one.

pretty poor considering this includes the total ammount including the JP sales where its been out for 2 freaking months!
makes you wonder though, if the 3G bundles are sold out everywhere in EU, the WIFI ones too a friend of mine wanted to get one today but the stores had 0 left.
and $ony announced last week the first access bundles are sold out, how many of those were available?
if all 3G units in EU are sold out, and all first access bundles, you would expect that to be a dam side higher then 1.2M units!
and thats not counting JP and asia!

I am part of the 1.2 Millions of PS Vita owners. Yippee!
Now on to the bad news:
My Vita's rear camera is a dud. Nothing but a black screen and system freeze. Trying to play Cliff Diver nets me a screen full of static. After doing everything I could find online to fix the problem, looks like I'm going back to my Gamestop for a replacement.

Why is my PS Vita camera not working?
Answer ID: 3790
Check the following items:
- Make sure there is a memory card inserted. A memory care is required to use the camera.
- Are you blocking the camera lens with your finger?
- Are you running an application that supports the camera? Not all applications have camera support.
Try powering off and powering back on the system and trying the camera application again. You should also confirm you are running the latest PS Vita firmware.

What can I do if there are picture problems on the PlayStation Vita?
Answer ID: 3745
If the PS Vita has no picture or your are experiencing picture problems, try the following steps:
Make sure the system is on
To turn the PS Vita on, make sure you press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. When the power comes on, the PS button will light up blue one time and then the initial settings screen is displayed.
Turn off the system
If the screen does not appear even though the PS button lights up blue one time, try the following. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds to completely turn off your system. Then release the power button and press and hold it again for 5 seconds to start up your system.
Check the brightness settings.
Press and hold the PS button to bring up the brightness settings and turn up the brightness.
Are there any lines or spiderweb like effects on the screen?
If there are lines or spiderweb effects on the screen, this indicated that the PS Vita screen is damaged. The system is considered out of warranty and will need service.
Try Restoring the PS Vita
Go in to Safe Mode and select "Restore the PS Vita" option. This will restore the PS Vita to factory settings.
If none of these work
The system will need to be sent in for service if none of these options work. Click here for service information

As for me, no I'm not a proud owner yet. I was planning on waiting for a must have title like I did with the PSP. (Didn't adopt until Crisis Core) But from friends and other folks, I haven't heard anything but good things about this device. It's getting harder to resist.
