Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time Set For Vita

The return of Sly Cooper just got better.

The long-awaited new installment in the esteemed franchise hits the PlayStation 3 later this year. That much we know (and appreciate). But did you also know that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is coming to the Vita as well?

As revealed at the PlayStation Blog, the portable version will launch alongside the console version, and Sanzaru Games president Glen Egan says the handheld iteration will boast system-specific features that utilize the front and rear touchscreens and the unit's motion control. Best of all, there's the cross-platform support feature, as players can switch between the PS3 and Vita (or vicey versey) and keep right on playing.

The Blog post also re-introduces us to Sly's lady friend, Carmelita, who will be playable in the game; she was in the PS2 titles as well, as the fans might remember. So when Thieves in Time arrives, you might have to pick it up for one platform and add the other platform's entry to the holiday list...

Any chance of this being a situation similar to Motorstorm RC? Meaning, you buy 1 and get the other free? That would be sweet and a major Vita seller. If I have to buy both I will be getting this for my Vita.

I was thinking the same thing. I really adore the Vita, but when selecting games, I'm more likely to select a ps3 version, than a Vita one if both are available, especially, if the ps3 version is older and cheaper. However, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more for certain new releases, if they happened to pack both versions, say, in special packages or promos.

I know MLB 12 The Show has a cool bundle available. You can both the PS3 and Vita versions for $78! See, if there is a game you absolutely love this is a huge feature! It's nice to have the option as Sony isn't forcing any of us to buy anything! Sony is all about offering phenomenal options to the gamer.

I'm probably going to get thumbed down for this, but technically this means that the PS3 just lost an exclusive...

Well, technically it's true, but I'd say this is much more of a gain than a loss.

Also, technically speaking, your avatar is going to give me nightmares.

Not really, it's not like it's coming to the 360. The Vita isn't directly competing with the PS3. The addition of the Vita only makes the PS3 version even better if you happened to own a Vita.

Nice, but I'd rather see an entirely new entry in the series developed for the Vita, rather than a port. Sly 4 is releasing this year, right? Because I desperately want it in my PS3.

sweet!
i really hope this is a worthy sequel for the sly series.
its so rare we get to see a beloved franchise rebooted so i hope this holds up well!
i hope this is more MoH and less twisted metal.
sometimes things are left better dead, i hope this is not one of those cases.
