Sony Sees Plenty Of Demand For Vita
Many remain skeptical about the PlayStation Vita, as they will point towards the mobile gaming explosion on cell phones and the immense popularity of the Nintendo 3DS.
Furthermore, the Vita will miss the holiday season in North America and Europe; it'll launch on February 22, which isn't exactly a peak time for the industry. So will Sony's technologically advanced new handheld flop upon arrival? Well, SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller has called the number of Vita pre-orders "substantial."
In speaking to All Things D, Koller said the delay for the launch of the Vita in the US and Europe was so Sony could meed demand. He also cited a few studies that show that 60% of all current PSP owners and 63% of PS3 owners intend to own a Vita within the first 18 months of the portable's lifespan. Therefore, Sony sees plenty of demand and they're only worrying about meeting that demand. Said Koller:
"We’ve increased production materially since E3. We learned our lesson to make sure you have enough product."
As for potential competition with smartphones, Koller simply restates what we've heard from Sony before: the Vita offers a "larger game experience," which means they are "insulated from the competition." In other words, if you want the best of the best in the portable market, you have no choice: it has to be the Vita.
Do you have confidence in Sony's new handheld?

Vita and iPhone/Android may look the same when you see someone using them, but the games they offer could not be anymore different.

What the regular android and ios devices miss is the analogue sticks though. But as soon as someone offer a bluetooth controller for these devices and that device is supported by the game makers that gap is filled too.
I am not saying the Vita isn't a better product from a technical point of view - it most definitely is - I'm just not convinced that the market will see it that way.
If I am wrong then good for Sony!

Yay GTA3. But that is still one whole generation behind the Vita.
Plus playing hardware demanding games on your phone is no good. I don't like the fact that 2 hours of phone gaming will totally drain your battery AND you now won't be able to make important calls or sms.
To me:
Phone: Phonecalls, Sms, Google Maps, 3G web browsing.
Handheld: Play games and don't mind about draining the batterry, watch movies and listen to music.
To me games on a phone will always remain gimmicky at most. Phone is an important tool that I cannot afford to waste on games.
Maybe when phones are as strong as pcs and run on nuclear energy I'll consider gaming on it lol... As long as it has good controls like the XperiaPlay but better.

3DS was fun for a month... But it lacks anything worthy of beeing called a game. And when it has a game it is a port from N64 that I already went through 40 times.
Vita offers:
1: Total rape of anything a smartphone can offer (graphics and control-wise)
2: Slick design and nice screen
3: Good enough batterry life
4: Very nice feel. Yes I played it. Played LBP and Uncharted. I think you have to get it in your hands to realise how nice it is.
5: A promise of ALOT of very nice games when it launches and over 100 in 2012. Not just some dull time killing games. Also some games I will actually continu on my PS3 afterwards.
That is why I am hyped. My traveling situation does motivate me more but the product at hand is very promising.

Luckily, with work gifting me a new laptop, inclusive of decent 540M Nvidia GPU, I have a very nice "on-the-go" gaming PC I can use on my travels. It will come in handy for those multiplatform games that just look so much better today on PC than on consoles.
I have BF3 on the PS3, but I will also get it for the PC when I receive the laptop. I like to think I can mod the PC version and see what the community brings to the BF3 Frostbite 2.0 engine in the future.
All the while waiting for news on the PS4 :)

Side note; Naughty Dog need to change the trailer they are advertising for Uncharted 3. A lot of people are asking why a movie is being released on the ps3!

Grow up and find a good reason to whine?
It is also stupid to compare it to the price of a PS3. You don't cry about the DS and it is MORE expensive than a Wii no? And if anything it would make sense it is about the same price as it has more capabilities and about the same graphical power... I just totally don't get you.
