Vita Update 1.80 Brings PS1 Classics
Long-time PlayStation fans have wanted PS1 classics to be functional on the PlayStation Vita since the portable hit store shelves in February.
Well, they're coming. As one of the many great announcements made at the Gamescom event today, Sony confirmed that System Software Update v1.80 will deliver support for classic PS1 titles.
You'll also be able to make various setting changes while games are running, and even take screeshots of the gameplay. But that's hardly the only significant feature that will be added via update 1.80; click through the link above to read up on all of 'em. There's Cross Controller, which lets you use the Vita as a controller when playing a game on the PS3, the option to control the basic menus with the standard buttons, playlists will be supported in Music, and much more.
The reasons to own a Vita are mounting by the second. By the end of the year, perhaps all serious gamers should really own one... Or do we need a price drop first?

A price drop get definitely vault the Vita sales... but that will happen in time, Sony know this and I am sure have made the necessary arrangements when best to do it... It could be that they bring a price drop forward rather waiting.. maybe holidays 2012...

I however don't really agree that Sony should drop the price. I would rather they provide all these features and make it worth the $300. It really is an amazing machine even without all the games.
I understand the desire to get things cheap, I'm cheap, but I'd rather pay more for something nice, than pay less for and get crap.

I expect free-to-play to eventually replace the current model. Crytek's "Warface" looks fantastic and Call Of Duty's Modern Warfare is being given a test run in Asia with the series combined maps - and it seem to be doing quite well. Micro transactions are coming. Instead of the long slog to unlock weapons/attachments - you will pay $$$$ (or ££££..) for the same item.
You can also expect FPSs to continue the good working of eliminating lessor genres.
