Anyone else REALLY disappointed? I thought there would be way more games than that available today. Like, I think I'm going to hold off on a PSP trade-in for a while now because I won't be able to play the PS1 Classics I want on Vita until who knows when...

I downloaded Legend of Dragoon on my PS3 and transferred it to Vita last night and it works just fine so far. I haven't tried any other games yet but if LoD isn't on the list above, and it works, then there must be others as well.

In any case, I'm glad to finally see some PS1 love on my Vita. It'll only get better.

I'm seeing reports that actually quite a few PS1 games play just fine on Vita today. If that's the case, why wouldn't Sony say so? Don't they realize quite a few people, yours truly included, won't buy a Vita until we know we can access our favorite PS1 classics?

I would totally wait for the bundle. I kind of want to trade in the vita I have now to get it, but I don't think I want to part with it because I got it on launch day. That white Vita is pretty slick though.

Hopefully Sony will have made good on more of the promises they have made about the vita by then, like having more PS1 games and other features available.

I redownloaded all of the PS1 classics I bought. So far I have only transferred FFVII. I'll try the rest later. I have maybe a total of 20 games that I'll try and transfer.

EDIT: Okay, about half of my PS1 classics were transferable. The ones I can list off the top of my head that are not on this list

I tried many of mine last night, none would transfer. I didn't get a chance to try FFVII because it was too far down the list of downloads, but none of the Syopro or Crash games I tried worked. So far this feels like a steaming pile of phail to me. Sony owns the platform and the games, how the hell can they screw this up? It's working on PS3 and PSP, how on earth can it be in any way challenging to make it work on Vita when Vita can emulate PSP in software?

I agree. They don't seem to know what they're doing in regards to rolling out new firmware and what exactly it does. New firmware is supposed to be a good thing for hardware owners but the last few years it seems I only read complaints about Sony when it comes to firmware. Most of them justified.

OK, congratulations to Sony for utterly screwing up something that should have been a homerun that they could hit blindfold in the middle of a Hurricane.

I mean, Sony you're the platform holder for PS1 games, it's YOUR legacy, and yet on your flagship mobile device that is capable of emulating the PSP in software you think it's acceptable to roll out a pitiful number of PS1 games as your big launch of PS1 compatibility?

What now? First of all, why wasn't this there from the beginning? It's software emulation of a decade and a half old system that you've emulated in software on PS2, PS3 and PSP. It's not like you lack the knowledge to create a working emulator. So why make everyone wait 9-10 months for a feature that should have been there since day 1? Secondly, 9 games in North America? Where are the 100 or so that the EU got? Why the difference? Is SCEA simply pathetic an SCEE is uber capable? No, of course not, the software is the same. This is because you folks in SCEA seem to think that it's acceptable to shaft your consumers left and right over stupid little things like this. Third, why is this even restricting the games that it can run? It's an emulator it should be capable of running every single PS1 game repackaged for PSN, the only possible reason for a restriction is that someone somewhere in Sony thought it was a neat idea to put a whitelist into the emulator to prevent it loading and running items not on the whitelist.

So now I have to wait for SCEA to get of their lazy behinds and add the PS1 classics I paid for years ago to their crappy little list? No Crash, no Spyro. thanks for screwing up what should have been an easy win Sony, you guys really know how to succeed at failing.

I know this is a pretty sad 'official' list of supported games. But I suspect there are more that will work. So far I've only tried transferring Legend of Dragoon, but it works (much to my delight)

I have to agree with you though. Vita really, really should have been 100% PS1 capable right out of the box. No excuse.

Even if the list of 100 that work in the EU suddenly spring to life in NA, that list still excludes a ton of games that were released a long time ago to PSN including iconic games like Crash and Spyro.

It's software emulation. Sitting a white-list in between the customer and their purchased games is simply stupid. The emulation is 100% certain to be capable of running the games, but they won't transfer because their not on the white-list. So now I have to wait for SCEA to update the white-list? I know you understand my frustration, but this actually goes beyond the simple frustration over not being able to transfer the games I already have.

People often say I excuse Sony's failures like a true fanboy. I've always pointed out that's not true. When Sony screw up I am always asking why and pointing out where they screw up. This is a perfect example of screw up. It's a perfect example because it's so pointless and unnecessary. Sony are literally screwing themselves.

What's really confusing about this is the apparent difference between SCEE and SCEA. SCEA really does seem to be the lazy end of Sony these days. Ever since Kaz Hirai went on to bigger and better things in SCE, SCEA has just performed very poorly. But that difference between SCEE and SCEA; as well as the stupidity of preventing the Vita Content Manager from even transferring games not on the white list just hurts Sony.

Just want to add that it's this kind of mishandling that results in people cracking the systems and pushing out custom firmware. That is one of the reasons I do not begin to understand why SCEA in particular likes to trickle feed gamers. All it does is provoke hackers to do their thing.

Indeed Highlander. People are already finding out that it is possible to play PS3 games via Remote Play. For some reason Sony is holding out. All they had to do was hack older PS3 firmware and alas! PS3 games via remote play.

Cannot for the life of me understand why Sony would without that from the public. Even if it didn't work perfectly, it would an unbelievable system seller. Imagine if Vita had launched with full PS1 Classic backwards compability, remote play for PS3, PSP BC, and the Cross Buy promotion? it would have been a must-have system for every last PlayStation fan, and that's before you even get to the Vita-exclusive games.

My PsOne games are working fortunately. I still dont understand why Sony are giving Europeans 100+ titles this week and only 9 for North America. For once I'm glad to be living in Europe.

But I don't think Sony should do this weekly roll-out of the games, they should know by now that us Vita owners have waited long enough for this simple Vita feature.

Thanks CrusaderForever; you beat me to what I was about to do. Damn it kids; before you all start bitching out Sony post a polite help request. I went onto my Vita last night after the update and couldn't get the PS1s into it via the store (Not there yet.). Next I went to the PS3 and did the content manager. Didn't work but then I remembered what happened with PSP games: They sit there waiting for you to click to install them to a device. So downloaded the 30 odd PS1 games I have (Thanks PS+!) and hooked back up the Vita. Only game I saw that I had that didn't get transferred was Final Fantasy V. All other FFs, Tomb Raiders, Resident Evils, DinoCrisis, Castlevania, Spyro, Crash, etc. games transferred. The only issue I have is unlike the PSP where you can resize the PS1 to fill the entire window or at least top to bottom is missing. Guess what? I shall wait for an update or an answer on the Playstation blog and I'll be thankful and polite when I receive my answer. I'm sure we will see many of the PS1 games later today when the Vita store is updated. Until then? GET BACK TO WORK OR CLASSES!

...you know, I should probably remind people that the Vita isn't really about playing two-generation-old games. As much as I love the PS1 classics, this is sort of like complaining if the PS4 comes out and doesn't immediately play all PS2 games.

B/C is great but this is new hardware designed for new purposes. If I want to play PS1 games...I can play them. Been able to do that for fifteen years. :)

I agree, this is not something that I deserved. This is something Sony did for it's fans and to sweeten the deal for Vita. This is a bonus and that is all. I am truly happy with what I have been given today.

By the way Legend of Dragoon looks great on the Vita! I am already into the game however I am going to stop now because P3P is calling my name.

I disagree Ben. Retro gaming is very big in the mobile gaming space. Not to mention this is a software only feature and easy to implement. I'd also point out that PS1 games were the original hook for PlayStation Suite now called PlayStation Mobile which Vita was meant to be aligned with.

Either way, this is something that is a very easy win for Sony that they are not winning.

I think Sony will be the first to tell you that the Vita is a next-gen handheld gaming device, very much outside all other mobile spheres. I agree that PS1 games should work and they should be there, but it's hardly the focus of this unit.

And as time goes on, as is the case with all b/c, it will be less and less important to gamers.

Ben, I respect you greatly, but I disagree with giving Sony any kind of pass on this topic. PS1 compatibility was a listed feature of the Vita as far back as I can remember. The feature was unexpectedly missing at launch and has taken 9-10 months to arrive. Now it's arrived we find it's encumbered by a white list that prevents many existing PS1 classics from working. I'm sorry, but none of this jives with the promises that were made for Vita. I understand that it's a next generation platform - so to speak. But I honestly think that's a cop out. PS2, PS3 and PSP all run these games without a problem. Whether they are 1 generation old or 3, they are still great games. To be honest, the very fact that this is a next gen system should mean that BC with the PS1 is child's play to implement compared to a modern game.

Oh, I'm not giving Sony any sort of pass. I know what they promised and I know the feature should've been delivered by now.

I'm just saying I don't think it's a very high priority for them and in truth, looking at the current trends of gaming and this new generation that really doesn't give a fig about anything from the PS1 era, I'm not sure they're incorrect in that prioritizing.

Anybody know how to put images on my PS3 with a USB drive? I used to do it but it doesn't work anymore. Videos I can move fine. I have a folder named PHOTO on the usb drive and I've tried converting the images to .png though most are jpg.

Did something change?

Well the good news is apparently WAY more games are available if you just download them via PS3 and then transfer to Vita. (thanks Crusaderforever for posting that list higher in this thread.) Awfully weird Sony wouldn't make this clear from the get-go, and stranger still they don't just allow full backwards compatibility. Sure I'm stoked to play another Uncharted, check out SoundShapes, and a bunch of other highly-rated Vita games. But the prospect of a full portable PS1 library on a fantastic screen and save transfers with my PS3 is a HUGE selling point for me and others like me. Hopefully they get full backwards compatibility worked out sooner rather than later.

If it's on the white list of games you can transfer it. If it's not on the list, it may or may not work. But you don't have to repurchase the game regardless.

I've not got a PS3 at the moment and only a Vita. Thought I could download FFVII since its in my PS Store download list (as I had it on my PSP) but no way so far. Why aren't they available in the Vita store? A bit of a let down...

You mean it's not showing up in Content Manager on your Vita? Where are you looking for it? It should be under PS3 -> Vita and then Playstation. Make sure you have the bubble install files on the PS3. If you download Twisted Metal 2 on the PS3, do the install and delete the install files then TM2 will not show up in the Content Manager.

I want to get a Vita, I really do! Now with PS1 classic support (even if limited), PSP game support (digital versions only) and amazingly good looking games coming out on Vita, it looks like a gamer's dream handheld machine!

Hopefully by the time Christmas rolls around, the Vita will have more PS1 games supported for it. At least FF VII was first on the list. My favourite game of all time!!

I have been waiting for PS1 support. I respectfully disagree with anyone that says that B/C isn't an important feature.
I think it's nice to revisit older games on newer hardware. Why is it that nintendo seems to be the only company that understands this?

I never got to finish Final Fantasy VII, Front mission 3 and Vagrant Story. I can't wait..

shocked, EU actually has WAY more compatible games!
shocked, for once $ony is giving the US the finger!
faints!

now i can stop wasting the battery life on my S3.
man i regret switching to android, my useless phone cant last 3 days without needing a charge!
even when you put it in flight mode and have as much closed as possible, i dont ring anyone, i dont play games on it, and it still only lasts 3 days!
my iphone which i use to play games on it every morning for the hour train ride use to last 5-7 days!
one thing i hate about this industry.
everything is 2 steps forward 2 steps back.
android is so much better because its more open, but its so much harder to use, less available apps, apps are worse every game i buy crashes never had a problem with my 4.
not to mention the battery life.
for once why cant manufactures compete with superior products, and not inferior ones?
they wonder why apple is kicking the market clean, but then they come and compete with this!
if your going to bring a b grade footballer to a a grade game of course your going to get your a$$ kicked!
