Hey, Maybe We'll Get A Good Final Fantasy Game For Vita

Many fans of the legendary franchise just want to pretend that Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII doesn't really exist.

So put it out of your heads. It's not real. Just a cruel joke, a lingering nightmare, a vision of something that can't possibly be. And if there's one place where a Final Fantasy RPG might actually still qualify as "role-playing," it's in the handheld world.

Of course, that doesn't mean Crisis Core and Type-0 were actually traditional installments in the franchise but hey, at least they were decent. And the director of those PSP titles, Hajime Tabata, has said he'd like to develop a Final Fantasy specifically for the Vita. According to a retrospective interview, Tabata had this to say about Sony's highly advanced new portable:

"I had an impression [that] it was an exceedingly good piece of hardware. Since I [had been] making Final Fantasy titles on the PSP, I have an interest in [developing] for a larger device. As someone concerned with game production, there is nothing other than the Vita that offers that largeness, high density and luminescence, and ability to [render] high-quality images."

So maybe that's what we'll do. Just wait for Tabata to get going on an FF for the Vita, and hope it's not like a spin-off to Lightning Returns. And you know, maybe the Vita could be home to a remake...as unlikely as that appears. We're just trying to be as optimistic as humanly possible.

FFXIV on Vita? Hell, why not? Throw in FF vs XIII as well for good measure.

I'm still waiting for the PSP version of Type-0 it's already hit the greatest hits range now in Japan... I originally thought S-E was worried that the PSP's lifespan was finished, then they released Final Fantasy III the other week! So I am still waiting for it - If it only came out on Vita... I would consider it getting one for it - maybe.

They're putting the Kingdom Hearts HD remix ahead of the the Final Fantasy X project, don't go expecting it any time soon...

If they make something that qualifies as a real Final Fantasy rpg, then I would most definitely support it. I might even buy an extra copy to frame and hang on the wall if that were to happen.

Tabata is one of the developers of Final Fantasy that I actually like. But I don't understand why he's restrained to handhelds. Why not port his games to consoles as well?! (I'd kill for an HD remake of Crisis Core on PS3)

Only reason why we haven't seen a good Final Fantasy game yet on consoles is because Square keeps pushing whatever crap Toriyama and Kitase create. Why not assign them to working on handhelds and allow Tabata (as well as Takashi Tokita) have some time to shine? Please, Square?! Pretty please?

It would be "Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Won't Go Away"

Seriously how about Type 0 for America? Or Versus for ANYbody?

I really liked Crisis Core. Not traditional gameplay, but it was very good none the less. I love how it rounded out the FFVII story.

Maybe FF needs to go to Vita, they clearly have no idea what they're doing with home consoles anymore...

Sony needs a big name franchise like Final Fantasy to make an appearance on Vita so this would be great news. If the game happens to not be a total disaster, that's even better.

Considering the current philosophy of Square-E regarding Western sales trends it is highly unlikely that we will see FF on VITA anytime soon. Unless Tabata can convince the bobble head executives otherwise let us revisit this possibility when the VITA has over 5 millions unit sold.

Vita is the epitome of Catch-22. The games that will sell it wont be created for it until it sells more!

I would love to see VII and crisis core released on the vita with trophy support. The trophies are already done with the PC re-release of VII. No need for an HD remake. Just make them avail for PS3 and vita and I would gladly pay $15 for each game.

A port of Type-0- for the West would be very welcome. Something original would be good too. Maybe a pseudosequel to The 3rd Birthday, because I rather liked what I have managed to play of it thus far, even if it does have some strangeness in it.

Ehh, even Agitato or "type-O" wasn't even localized... I'm done trying to think of maybe this release will be the return of the once great series, or oh this one! You can only give a company so many chances until it's upto them to come to you.

Square Enix makes me so angry...I get so excited only to be let down.
At this rate we'll have a FF game on Vita that's Japan only and doesn't come out for another five years. And it will probably star Lightning...or some Lightning clone that's mixed up in the XIII universe.
