Ragnorak Odyssey Hits Vita Today, A God-Send For RPG Fans
The PSP was always a haven for hardcore role-playing fans. So shouldn't the new portable maintain that trend?
If you're not so much into the likes of Assassin's Creed III or Need for Speed: Most Wanted this week, and you'd much rather get involved in a deep, involving handheld RPG, Ragnorak Odyssey is for you.
After a "lengthy localization," XSEED Games has delivered this anticipated Monster Hunter-like experience to the Vita. As revealed at the PlayStation Blog, both the regular and Mercenary Editions are now available in North America. The pricier version comes in at $49.99 and boasts a monster guide with artwork, official soundtrack, and 10 randomized collectible monster cards. As for the game itself, we'll leave you with this encouraging description by XSEED production assistant Brittany Avery:
"Think of it kind of like Monster Hunter or Gods Eater, but with more of a Norse mythology twist and a battle system that’s all about knocking your enemies high into the air, then flying up after them and flinging them all over creation before slamming them back down into the hard dirt below. It’s a great game to pick up and play anytime, as you can just grab a quest and head out to go attack all manner of creatures and loot lots of goodies off their hacked-up remains. And if you don’t want to go it alone, you can always bring three friends with you through ad-hoc or infrastructure multiplayer – which might be a huge help when you face off against some of this game’s mammoth bosses, who can be hundreds of times bigger than you are."

But aside from those negatives it seems to be the game it promoted itself to be.
I want to give it a shot. I'm sure Ben has a lot to say about it as well ;)
I liked Uncharted 3 but I will say the inception of U2 was more unprecedented. Naughty Dog did well with the first game but its sequel raised the bar. It has that classic WOW! release feel I didn't get from uncharted 3 largely because I think everyone expected uncharted 3 to be great. I think similarly about the FF games. Subsequent games to FFvii may have looked and been better produced but FFVII was the one that set the standard going forward.
