Vita Can Only Display 100 Apps...This Is Really A Problem?

I've been pretty hard on the PlayStation Vita recently, criticizing its lack of software for the first six months of 2013. But this one, I'm not sure I get.

Granted, I'm not a techie nor am I a gadget freak. Those people who wander around public places with their noses buried in some device (usually their phones) irritate me, and it's just plain infuriating if you're trying to talk to someone and they can't even look up. Hence, I've never understood this obsession with "apps" in the first place, so maybe I'm the wrong person to judge.

According to a NeoGAF member, the PlayStation Vita is only capable of displaying 100 Apps, even with a 32GB memory card and plenty of space available on that card. Shagg_187's card holds around 50 Minis, 10 PS1 games, 20 mandatory apps, and 20 Vita or PSP games and apps. ...seems like an awful lot to me. But it is a little curious as to why the Vita can't handle more than 100 apps, regardless of the available space. So I get that question because it's a somewhat curious situation.

I just wonder how many people are going to care. Like I said, I'm very much not rolling with the majority; I think have maybe ten apps on my phone, half of which my brother put there when he was fiddling with it. I'm sure I don't have many on the Vita, either; nowhere near close to 100. But maybe others do, and this limit is indeed problematic. Do you have an issue with it? Are you approaching the limit now?

Yeah I've been criticizing it for the first six months of 2013 so far too. But nothing's been happening.

Someone didn't get my joke.

The point of my joke was that...we're still in the first month of 2013, not six months in.

Ben was no doubt referring to the lack of games set to release in the first half of 2013.

Number of apps isn't my problem...I dont put any PS1, PSP, or mini games on my Vita. Memory is my problem...I have a 32GB but it is full...would like a 64GB card, but would love a 128GB card.

If u have some music on it, it would be wise to delete some and put on your older mp3 player and make more room for games, because vita memory cards are pricey.

Interestingly, I found this discussed and discovered already last june, in the comments field on the official US playstation blog:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/06/11/ps-vita-at-e3-minor-system-software-update-coming/

Seems to simply be a design flaw, it's hard coded to have ten screens with ten icons each. A very strange decision, but I can't understand anything else than that this should be possible to fix with a patch.

Yeah, easily fixed with just a kindof "see all apps" view like an android phone outside of the main screens.

"I can't understand anything else than that this should be possible to fix with a patch"

Nintendo patched the 3DS so that it could hold 18,000 icons for apps. They did this by allowing users to create folders that could hold up to 60 icons per folder.

A similar thing could be done on Vita.

It's a 10 year console that may fill up considering when you buy a game card it creates an app and with all the free stuff you get with PS Plus, and with Sony make the stupid decision not to have a saves app so deleting the app of a game deletes the save unless your a plus member with cloud saves

How could one seriously have 100 apps on it anyone, I'm not with the 'app' generation, but this just seems ludicrous.

Exactly, also 20 mandatory apps? Really? That's bs on his end. Oh well I have tons of games but haven't run into this little hurdle.

Just get cranking on the games, and hopefully one day reduce prices/memory cards, we don't want to see the Vita fail.

They need to just implement some kind of app drawer, either on the Vita or in the cloud.

That is a great idea! Give gamers the option on how to utilize the 1GB PS+ online storage.

My biggest issue so far is the number of dollars it takes to obtain said device and memory cards.

Yes it is a problem since you cant delete anything without it deleting your game save data as well. Total asinine idea, whomever implemented that one needs to be fired.

So far hasn't been a problem with me. This is a head scratcher for sure?! I don't see this as being a big deal for me. I got the Platinum for ACIIIL a few days ago and just did a final backup to the cloud and deleted it. I now have 5GB available on my 32GB.

As the Vita grows up this will definitely be a problem for MP3, Mini and PS1 users though.

I don't know why people don't do this. It is such an amazing way to keep all your saves and such. Oh yea, also you can back them up to the pc or ps3. I only have around 300mb on my 32gb :\. Went away so quickly lol.

"I don't know why people don't do this"

Because deleting your games also deletes your saves and not everyone is willing to pay 60 bucks to get around that issue.

Yet you didn't read the rest. The ps3 and pc can also be used to back up those precious saves. Plus you can also find discounts on plus, 29.99 instead of 49.99. Don't know where that extra $10 came from.

No issue for me - I don't have 100 games and apps on my PC, PS3, Xbox or Vita (each - combined they'd be over that comfortably) at any one time - I'll generally delete the ones I'm not playing, and re-download them if I need to. Keep it nice and clean. That said, I do think they need to increase this in the future, as I know plenty of people who like to have everything downloaded all at once.

I do like the Vita's 10 splash screens - I take photos of families and friends on holiday, then put 3-5 apps 'around' the main subject of the photos, works really well (although it means I'll have a max of 40-odd apps on my Vita, but so far I'm doing fine).

It's to do with the maximum "desktops". I haven't reached that mark but I did notice playing around at one point I reached the limit of not apps but desktops. It followed there was a set limit to app places.

not now its not, but in a few years time it will be.
you can delete icons once your not using the game, so that fixes the problem.
bit of a pain, but nothing more

I'm with you, Ultimadream. They're like desktop icons - if you have that many, you aren't using a lot of them, so why have them. I have 20 or so and I usually delete some if I'm not using them. I can't imagine filling the thing.
