Vita Web Browser Off Limits When Playing A Game

The PlayStation Vita is a nifty unit, no doubt about it. But there are some things it just can't do...yet.

According to Andriasang, players will not be able to access the Vita's web browser in the middle of playing a game.

In other words, when you press the PS button (as you might on the PS3 controller), you can bring up the menu and have access to several features. That includes your music collection, friends list, and the system's Twitter client, and you can always return to your game. But source Impress Watch wanted to clarify a particular point: you can't browse the web when pausing a game with the PS button. If you want to surf, you'll have to quit your adventure.

However, the good news is that based on the wording of the information, Sony might fix the issue with a future update. ...we imagine a great deal of things will be addressed with updates and patches, which isn't a bad thing.

I don't see this as an issue. If your playing a game, you are playing a game. Why would you need to suddenly pause the game to go on the internet, are peoples attention spans that limited?

I understand this... and very much would like a gaming console or handheld to do this.

I mean, you need to get somewhere and don't know how or you want a shiny new thing that's hidden somewhere and you need to check an online FAQ or guide...and you need to boot up you laptop to do this... it's mildly annoying :/

Nonsense, the whole point of playing a portable game is for a diversion, travelling on a train from instance. There is no need to have to suddenly interupt the game to go on the internet, you just finish the game. I just cannot see the need for anyone to need to quite a game to browse the internet. walkthroughs? possibly but who would really bother using a walkthrough for a PSP/Vita game.. The main point is it would distract from the gaming experience, So I dont think they should allow people this.

Errr the way you just talked in your last post is like *Vita games are not worth a strat guide* lol.

Did you forget they are going to be pretty close to PS3 games and that some will even be on both? ... Why would they not be worthy of a strat guide?

But I agree with you that in my case I would not use the browser when *on the go* and playing a game. Id rather just look it up on my 3g cellphone while I play on my Vita. Makes way more sense. I mean why would I share my phones 3G to my wifi Vita to use its internet when I could just do it on my phone in the first place lol

Even the PS3 can't do this... right? I mean, I've been like 3 or 4 weeks w/o PS3! It can't evolve THAT much, right??? :'(

Why don't they update the PS3's browser to make it at least as good as Vita's? It's been long overdue.

I don't understand why don't they can't just do this now, before the Vita comes out.

Seems like Sony's not being too forward-thinking on this one, especially since it will most certainly give the Doubting-Debby whiner crowd some ammunition to fire off against the Vita.

I'm not bothered by this, since I won't be getting a Vita regardless. That being said though, this seems like a feature that would make a lot of sense for a portable. Lots of things can come up when you're out that might require that you interrupt your game and check dething online. It would be very convenient to not be forced to quit your game when this happens.

It would also pretty cool to be able to do this on the PS3, assuming, of course, that they updated the browser first. Speaking of which, does anybody know if the Chrome deal fell through or not?

yet another reason why the ipad is better!
50 bucks more but it has inbuilt memory vita does not, larger screen, cheaper games each ipad game is 10 or less and there just as good, full multitasking, easy customization.......

vita is going to flop even faster then the 3Ds if $ony does not give us a massive price drop, and lower the price of those ridiculous memory cards!
i really cant understand it.
very limited multitasking, games if prices stay as they are now are the same as ps3 games, costs 50 bucks less then a ps3, no game archiving on launch, very limited launch line up, ridiculously overpriced accessories, restricted to 1 PSN account per unit.
$ony really dont want people buying this do they!?

LOL the Ipad is a joke. And its more like... 200$ more for the BASIC model and some low ass specs. Just for you I'll make sure to diss the Ipad and praise the Vita for every client I encounter at my shop :P

God I wish you had a name so I could label you a moron all over the place XD Your whole post is a dump.

And so it starts already,
I had to figure that our very own Doubting-Debby whiner crowd of one would start off the Vita BS!

Move along now now, nothing to see in ________'s post.

If anyone remembers the state of the PS3's O.S. when it was released thumbs up, 20x worse than it is now in game XMB people, themes, PSN store, Flash 6?, trophies the list goes on hopefully SONY will support the PSV on the software side like the PS3 then we will have many more features to come.

I wonder if they'll do a save-state kind of thing like Apple does on their i devices. It would work well with the vita. You'd technically have to quit the game but you'd be able to jump right back in where you left off.

You mean like they did with the PSP go a few years back? It might even be Apple who *did like them*

But the main reason that feature was there was that the GO came with installed 16gb memory. So it is either they don't do it since not everyone will be able to use it due to the lack of a memory card... Or it will be offered to people with enough space on theirs... Like to people with 8gb and up memory cards in their Vita.

I am cringing at the thought of the Vita browser. If Sony are going to include browser tech in the handheld make sure it is really useful with all the relevant technologies built in. I don't see the Vita browser supporting Flash properly for example, or if it does, it will be the bare minimum. With the Vita's memory restriction it will be similarly modeled to the PS3 and have some of the PS3's "bottlenecks" unfortunately.

I may be wrong though, so let's see what user reaction is like upon release.

Q!
