Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse: True Adventure Comes To Vita

Adventure purists, fear not: The genre isn't dead yet!

Those who are old enough (and hip enough) may recall a series called Broken Sword, which began back in 1996 with Shadow of the Templars. It turned out to be a big success on the original PlayStation, so the franchise continued onward and upward.

The second also hit the PS1 and was voted as the 5th best PlayStation game of all time by readers of Official PlayStation Magazine. The third iteration dropped on the PS2 and was nominated for three BAFTA awards. So, now this prestigious IP has been confirmed for the PlayStation Vita. As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse, the fifth game in the series, is headed to Sony's new portable. And Vita owners should be enthusiastic.

Here's a brief summary of the story:

"Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse starts with intrepid lawyer, George Stobbart, and sassy journalist, Nico Collard, caught in the deadly robbery of a seemingly worthless painting. But we, the audience, also see a scene from the Second World War in which Spanish fascists storm a Catalan villa, killing the family, and seizing that same painting. As George and Nico are drawn into the murderous conspiracy, those around them claim that the painting is cursed by the Devil himself. George and Nico soon come to believe that they may just be right."

Sounds great! And we are reminded that this is "very much an adventure," as it's "traditional in terms of its core spirit, but wholly contemporary in terms of graphics and gameplay." This project first began as a Kickstarter campaign in August 2012 and after landing 15,000 backers, it doubled the initial goal. It's fantastic to see games like this get positive attention!

Good, the Vita is getting a title from a well established franchise. I'm all for this, keep it up.
