No Current Plans To Bring Vita TV To North America, Europe

That PlayStation Vita TV sure is nifty, isn't it?

Unfortunately, Sony has no current plans to bring it to North America or Europe. That doesn't mean it won't ever happen (cross your fingers!), but SCEE president and group CEO Andrew House told Nikkei's Tech On blog that Vita TV will initially be introduced in Asian markets.

That's disappointing, but House did say that Gaikai, the cloud-based streaming service slated for the PlayStation 4, could "technically" be supported by Vita TV:

"Therefore, SCE is considering providing PS3 games to the PS Vita TV by using the service in the future."

If you didn't already know, Vita TV plays Vita game cartridges and hooks up to your TV. It can even beam the games remotely to other televisions in the home, and will work with various streaming video services. This device will let you play PSP, PS1, and Vita games directly on the big screen, which sure is appealing. It'll even work with the PS4's Remote Play feature, so it appears to have all the bases covered.

Well, all the bases in Japan, anyway.

Woah, did you just use the phrase "game cartridges"? That takes me back :)

I'm a little lost though, why provide PS3 games via Vita TV? Is that for people who have no PS3?

It's funny I'd buy Vita games if they just made them playable on PS3 or PS4, but I have no place in my life for the hardware.

Oh my god, some people...as John mentioned, just because it hasn't yet been announced, doesn't mean it's never coming. Andrew House even said that it would initially be introduced in Asian markets. They are probably not yet considering western markets as they're preoccupied with launching another piece of hardware this year. I could see them announcing N. and S. American availability at E3 next year.

Give it time. PS4 in US first then VitaTV. VitaTV in Japan first then the US. It gives both markets time to salivate for both products.

It was never said that it won't come overseas and Shuhei states as much on Twitter. Patience is a virtue.

I hope they intend to release it in 2014. I reckon I could make use of this with PSP & Vita games in full screen - I'm not a portable game, so this is perfect for me.
