New Vita 2000 Model Can Use Smartphone Micro USB Charger
As revealed last month, the new PlayStation Vita for Japan will be lighter and thinner. And it'll be available in six sweet colors, too.
At the time, Sony did say they had ditched the proprietary charger, and the Vita 2000 had changed to a Micro USB port. Okay, but does that mean you can use the standard Micro USB charger your smartphone probably uses? That'd come in awfully handy at certain times, wouldn't you say?
And yes, it does work that way. SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed via Twitter (as cited by DualShockers) that the new Vita model does indeed support a Micro USB smartphone battery charger:
"You’ll be happy you’re using a PS Vita 2000, because it can be charged with any Micro USB smartphone battery charger."
Sony currently has "no plans" to bring the new Vita to other regions besides Japan. However, with sales continuing to slide, they may be forced to spice things up pretty soon. That price drop hasn't really boosted those sales numbers very much. Then again, not much will happen when the software is so severely lacking, so bring on the exclusive games, damnit.
