Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f Landing On Vita In Early 2014

You asked for it and Sega is proud to deliver it.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f will be coming to the PlayStation Vita early next year.

The title received some pretty solid reviews when it launched on the PS3 in late August, and fans of the genre were definitely pleased. Soon, they'll get a chance to take that quirky Japanese goodness on the go, as so many gamers requested. They'll have more details on the Vita version soon, but you can probably expect a few new additions to the content, which would make the upcoming iteration the definitive Project Diva f title available. It may not be a huge AAA blockbuster, but there is certainly a loyal contingent of followers.

Me, I don't really get it but then again, I never got the appeal of anime, either. Yes, even as a JRPG fan.

I know several people who will be thrilled at this news. Hopefully Sega is starting to understand that the audience for niche games, like Project Diva, hasn't gone anywhere since the PS1/2 days. We just haven't been served, and we've got money burning a hole in our pockets.

Now if we could get some news about a localization of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd...

To the anime comment, Ben, I'll say what I usually say: Maybe you simply tried the wrong anime. As most of us should be aware, just because a certain entertainment is popular, that doesn't make it high-quality. i.e. "I don't like Transformers 2, thus I don't like any American movies." That's a broad over-generalization, similar to what I've seen people apply to anime, or music genres, or books, or what have you. Although I don't know what you've tried, you might not know what you're brushing off ;) There are some damn fine anime out there, and some god-awful very popular anime, like in any medium.

They (sega)are probably jealous of the steady, helpful sales that NIS America takes in. Folks got to remember anime is a medium and not a genre, there would have been no Matrix without Ghost in the Shell.

Agreed. Whenever I see someone say they don't like anime it feels the same as if they said they just don't like movies or videogames. It's not all one genre, there's something for pretty much everyone, it's just not always the more popular or well known stuff.

If you've ever enjoyed a JRPG then you enjoyed an anime, there is no difference.

Miku is kawaii but I bombed in the demo, I'm gonna wait for the Hyperdimension Neptunia rhythm game and try that. Still having a blast with HN: Victory, just don't let your kids play it.

I completely disagree, I love JRPG's like Final Fantasy & Xenoblade, but utterly despise the character design in anime. I can appreciate the art direction if it is distinctive. Studio Ghibli for Ni No Kuni and Akira Toriyama's art design for Dragon Quest are prime examples of distinctive art direction with an anime flavour.

But when I see an image like that, with a doll-like figure, boggly eyes, clad attire I just find it really off putting. I look at that design and cannot tell the difference between that or Time and Eternity or Tales of Graces or Atelier Rorona or any other generic anime based JRPG, I just find it off putting and completely uninspiring.

The same thing is happening to the film industry with 3D animated films for children. You have so many being made that you look at the design and honestly cannot tell which production company has made it. Pixar used to be unique but even with their latest Brave, it looks rather generic. I would say its because they're using people, but they had people in Ratatouille and they looked very distinctive.

I honestly cannot stand it when people refer to Final Fantasy as anime... I see the JRPG as the perfect genre to represent an adventure, more so than movies. Final Fantasy IX & X prove this instantly, having a group gather up on a quest and travel across the land, fighting monster and having a plot unveil.

Well it probably doesn't help that there has been at least two animes made about it, that I can remember.

That doesn't make any sense, the character design in anime ranges from the exact same in the Final Fantasy games to the exact opposite, there is no one style that they all embrace. Your hate has blinded you, anime isn't even about the art style that's just one part of it.

Oh no... this is precisely the problem with the JRPG market, to many generic anime infested releases. How am I really meant to invest myself into a character looking like that. Everything about these kind of titles just make the genre so niche, I'm not surprised it has struggled this gen when 90% of the games are like this. Does this one include the Bathtime mini-game that was censored from the last generic anime JRPG?

Actually it's just a rhythm game.

WTH kind of evil game is this? I agree with Butka. This game is gonna suck! I better cast a spell to make sure these games don't start invading us on a regular basis.

Really hope these sell well enough. The more proof japanese devs received that there's an at least decent market for games with absolutely no "western appeal" whatsoever, the better our chances they'll stop trying to change everything to be less japanese.
